Is anyone formally responsible for monitoring aspects of the main page? I mean, I know Darke is responsible for everything* but there are now some old things on the "news" postings, and the "Back Online" notice at the top could be replaced with something else too.

No one in particular. I'll take a look and maybe clear some stuff off.

On that little notice at the top, I've been meaning to change that, but the damnable editor doesn't allow you to enter any HTML -- you have to go through a completely different interface. It's to "protect" us, I know, but I complain about taking my shoes off at the airport, too.

BTW, the home page always displays the last 10 entries, so it took quite a bit of clearing off. It just kept sucking up stuff from further and further into the past (or is that farther and farther?). Anyway, everything on the home page is now at least somewhat relevant, anyway.

Yeah that's one of the things I disliked about the homepage (being able to limit the number of articles shown there). How did you clean them off? Did you delete them?

No, I changed "Display in home page" to "No" for all of the dated ones. That way they still show up in the various News Archives and other sections, just not on the home page. Had to change a couple of them from "Articles" to other things, because "Articles" ignore that radio button. But they weren't Articles, anyway, so that wasn't bad.

I wouldn't delete them -- I'd think we'd want them to be available for posterity.

Ok I added a new link for listing posts in reverse order (I.E. newest first) but instead of listing them by topic, it lists them by posts with a short preview. I'm wrestled with it for about 2 hours today trying to get it to post by topic will no success. If anyone wants to try and tackle that, give it a whirl with my blessings.

I was looking at the new introductory paragraph, which I'd tinkered with a number of months back. remember putting that "over 10,000" number as we were at about 10,900.

I just noticed that today we're at 19,200+. Criminy, that's some fast growth!

I'll see if I can't take a look at the thing you did... were you just playing with the SQL, or is there some other thing?

It appears that only the first page of that new format works -- after that it seems to fail. FYI.

Yeah we're getting somewhere between 20 and 45 new posts per day.

The latest posts link is just that a link. It resolves to this:

http://www.bgdf.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=search&search_author=*

I *should* be able to add &show_results=topics to get it to show topics instead of posts but for some reason it just ignores that flag.
