Ok, here are a couple of banners for the site using hpox's logo (slightly modified to add a bit of perspective to the light bulb -- happy to change it back if preferred).

I'm never satisfied with anything I'm in a hurry to do, but hey, they're on the right track, I hope.

PS: I didn't include the URL on the website logo since I think that's a given (and it adds clutter). It's on the business cards, of course, in the logo itself. I'll finish those and upload them asap, might not be until Monday.

I would argue that there is a minor issue over the word "The" here. It's not a part of the web address, and in the current logo it is much smaller. It's probably a necessary part of the name, but it feels odd to give it the same prominence as the rest of the name when it isn't really a part of it (otherwise the URL would be tbgdf.com :-)

I like the first one, and I'm not too worried about the discrepency between the emphasis of the word 'the' .

Fast / Hpox, do you have any problems with going with the first one?

I hadn't used it on the previous ones, but I went with Darke's lead on his example one.

I have an idea for a change that I'll do right now.

A couple of more variations on the theme:

Of these two I like the second a lot better. I'd remove the quotes around 'It's Your Turn' though.

Actually, I don't know about the black/gray letters. I think it would look better all the same shade.

My sister is still in town, I'll see what she thinks about it this afternoon (for another professional opinion)

The gray is to accent the B G D F. Kinda helps connect the name to the URL, imo.

Could be a bit more subtle, though.

Yeah, I figured on themeaning, I just don;t think it looks as good. Maybe if it were more subtle, like you say.

I like the second one too. The gray could be a bit darker though.

(or maybe with the capitalized letters in color?)

Hmmm... what about instead of changing the color of the leading letter, maybe put a stylish background behind the leading letter... like a round maybe blue circle outlined in black, but where the outline is actually shaped like a star... I should draw this and post it so I don't sound like I'm just babbling.

Agreed. I also agree that the quotation marks makes it a bit too busy. In reality, I don't think it's necessary to even accent BGDF. Either we put BGDF.com in it somewhere or we don't worry about accenting the capitals. After all, they're already at the site so it's not really that important to reiterate where they are. In reality it's your call Fast. As soon as you say you are done tweaking it I will post it.

Fast,

Any progress on the logo? Sorry I'm just itching to move forward with this.

I've got an idea for some color thing I'll try tonight. If that doesn't pan out, we'll just go with a slightly more subtle gray version that I'll post, too.

I don't know what you have in mind, but I am fairly confident that anything with different colors will look pretty bad. That is if each letter were a different color for example.

It sounds like people prefer this design:

In which case I still think the letters should all be the same color and shade (what about the tannish brown that he rest of the site is in?)
And I agree that the quotes should go.

Personally, I still like the other:

better- but without the "The".

Two more before the Gathering.

I don't want to match the current orangey color, per se, because that would make it difficult to change it later, if we wanted to.

Sorry, I won't get to the business cards before the Gathering. I'm supposed to be leaving Tuesday morning, but as it is, I'm probably going to have to postpone for a day (which really sucks).

On another note, I should be able to nail down judging for the American Hippodice contest over the next two weeks, in person (I'll have a lot more time there than I do here).

Hrm... I guess I'm alone in thinking that for a logo, the mix of colors looks kinda tacky?

I like the first one better.
Unless they lined up better or something I don't like accentuating the first letters, though in this version it's much less noticable.

I like the second one... and Doggonit, I like the little 'the' too. Heh...

Yeah it's up now. I was literally falling asleep at my keyboard last night so I wasn't able to post the news article right then.

Wow. It looks really nice. The light gray beveled background really help contrasting with the white logo. And there's some slight shadowing too. Neat.

Good work!
