Folks.

Mr Raddulay posted a reply to the responses of his earlier two posts. I originally deleted it but then I felt bad and grabbed a copy from my browser's cache. Here is the message as follows:

So what are we to make of this fellow. He seems harmless enough, however I think the language barrier is definitely a problem, possibly one that we might not be able to overcome easily. I don't want the community to be thought of as not internationally friendly and more specifically not non-english friendly, but we definitely have a problem here, one that could develop again with other members from other countries.

Any thoughts?

Well, at least he figured out the difference between a comma and an ellipses; that's a big improvement!

I have no idea what in the wide, wide world of sports he is talking about with respect to me being man enough to identify myself. I don't know what he's referring to. I feel like I should be mad, but I can't understand what he's talking about.

Look, we're in the admin forum here, so let's be candid. This guy is a clown, with a game that probably stinks but that he thinks is so great, and he's so hyper-paranoid, that he won't share anything about it publically; he wants us to contact him privately and ask him about it, I guess. He won't say what it is that he actually wants to accomplish with these posts, and he's been openly rude to members of the community (although this is often couched in the "language barrier"). What should we do about the guy? I don't know; I don't think we should boot him or anything. I didn't mind him when he was posting in the journals, even though he did IM me with unintellgible nonsense, which I find annoying but not much more than that. Mainly, I locked down his threads to protect him from the closest we've seen to a "lynch mob" forming; I didn't want to see people go in that direction, however warranted it was or was not.

Bottom line, I've told him before, "you must learn to communicate in English". The problem with Rad isn't even that you can't understand what he's saying; it's that he can't understand what you're saying. It's like two different trains running on two completely different tracks; there's just no communication happening. So, by all means, let's be senstive to non-English speakers -- our Quebecers do an admirable job butchering our beloved language, but you can at least understand what they're talking about, and it's fine. But when no communication is actually possible, it becomes a waste of everyone's time, and as we saw, it can turn nasty -- on both sides -- relatively quickly.

I wasn't ready to lock down the threads myself, but don't mind that you did it, Jeff. Things were indeed turning nasty.

I don't believe that we are in a position to help Rad, nor he us, and it was nearly impossible to communicate with him, so I don't mind him not coming back. If he does come back, we'll deal with it then.

It's funny, I used to check the Admin forum several times a day, but got out of the habit due to the lack of messages. I'll start checking it again now. Let's try to discuss such things here before kicking someone or closing a thread, when feasible. When it's not, I'm sure everyone will make good decisions, and I'll certainly always back you up.

I agree, it's usually best to interact with each other when making big decisions. On this one, I felt that time was of the essence, and that there was absolutely no chance whatsoever that anything other than verbal daggers were going to be coming out, so I acted quickly. I wasn't afraid you guys wouldn't agree so much as the "censorship" complainers would complain. But, the nice thing about a locked thread is it kind of removes an outlet for complaining!

We've put Rad in a tough spot; we've locked two of his threads, and deleted a third. We probably owe him an explanation. But, I really feel that writing it would be a complete waste of time. He won't understand it and will probably write back about someone he knows who had an idea stolen and why he doesn't want that to happen to him. I really think it's better to just hope he returns after he's brushed up on his English a bit.

Folks,

Let's not forget about the Limbo forum for moving controversial posts into until a decision can be made. I should have done it in this occasion too and I apologize for not doing so. Just keep it in the back of your mind next time it happens.

Well, like a bad penny, Rad has turned up again. He IM'd me "well, Mr. Jeff, I'm waiting for your reply." I wrote back that I had no idea what he was talking about, and he responded that apparently, he wants us to post the message he sent (which I guess is the one Darke deleted), so that he can "clear the air" as it were. I told him that we'd talk it over, but that I thought the prospects were dim that we'd post it, and that a better idea would be to try to forget the whole episode happened. I also strongly encouraged him to work on his English.

I am throwing this out to you guys for your input and judgement. Personally, I don't think the post needs to see the light of day ever again. Like his other posts, it won't lead to any kind of productive dialogue, nor will it really lead to anyone having a higher opinion of the guy. I'm happy to be overruled, though. I assume he'll IM me back at some point, I'll let you know what the latest is...

I guess I should take a look at these forums sometimes... I forgot it existed! that's what I get for relying on the "Latest Posts" thing...

I agree that it's impossible to communicate with this guy, so I never bothered. I think he IM'ed me once too, but I don't think I replied. I certainly didn't reply in a context of communication (I may have sent a token reply just to be polite).

If this guy makes $5-$6 a day, and spends $1 a day 3 times of week posting unintelligible nonsense, then it seems to me like this guys got bigger problems than us not understanding him.

I complain on the internet plenty, but I don't spend 10 percent of my income doing it.

I say ignore him and maybe he'll go away. He's got people in his own country giving him awards, he doesn't need to disrupt our community. We obviously can't help him.

It'd be nice if people didn't get uppity and post in his threads, then it would be a non-issue. But we can't do anything about that except what we've already done.

I will not release his post. I agree with you in that it wouldn't be productive for anyone involved. If you'd like I will talk to him regarding the issue. Perhaps we should delete his original posts too? There's not really anything worth keeping in the threads, and then he won't feel like he needs to clear the air.

He's back, but better this time

It appears that raddulay is back.

Much more readable and less annoying/pointed this time.

Yeah but I still don't know what the point is in his post. Why can't he just reply to existing posts like everyone else?

Well, you recall that he's paying like 10% of his earnings for internet access... maybe he can't afford to read posts... ;)

He's still got that "my idea is so incredibly clever that it must remain a secret" thing going, though. :(

rad dulay lives! He's over at the Boardgamedesign Yahoo Group now. It appears that he's posting the same basic thing, maybe with a bit more, though it looks the same.

There's something about the definition of madness in there, I'm pretty sure. Bummer.
