Another new guy!

Hello all!

I have been poking about for a few weeks, and have decided to stop lurking and join the fun.

I have to say, the first time I found this site I couldn’t bring myself to read much. I have been too comfortable being the only person I knew who was ...odd enough to see past the game and into mechanics, I figured that being a Meta thinker made me unique.

Suddenly, here's this huge community, with pages and pages of ideas, and concepts that I was silly enough to think I was the only one to have. You offhandedly label game mechanics that I thought I was wise to notice as common themes. And worse, you reference mechanics and concepts that I have never thought of.

So every day, a few posts at a time, Ego lost out as inspiration grew... I think I’m gonna like it here. :)

I think you will! I haven't been here very long, and like you I lurked a while before starting to participate. But suddenly I "got it," dived in, and I've been having a great (and very educational) time ever since.

The forums are a great place to get input from everyone, and the journals are a good place to keep your ideas and a history of how they progress. And the chat room has been wonderful. I never had any reason or desire to shoot the breeze with total strangers before; but the chat room sessions I've had recently with a few of my new "design buddies" have been invaluable, and have really improved the quality of the games I've been working on.

Welcome! (And while I'm on the subject, let me send a big THANK YOU to darkehorse and the other BGDF admins for creating and maintaining this incredible site.)

Welcome you to the site Squirrel!

I have to agree that this sight opens many new designers eyes.... it is amazing how many pages, posts and ideas are floating around this site. Not to mention how many talented memebers we have, offering advice, suggestions and feedback.

For me the site offers a focal point that seems to always help get my creative juices flowing.

Again welcome, and I look forward to your input!

One of the biggest mistakes that a lot of game designers make is to keep their designs within the close confines of themselves and a limited playtest group (usually only family and friends). This (especially when the designer is always there to coach the players on how to play his game correctly) leads to many designers thinking they have the next "big thing."

This site is an invaluable resource for realizing where your designs and your design style fits within the lager gaming community and the community of other hobby and professional designers.

Welcome Squirrel!

Like most have already said, this is a great place to meet new people, and come up with ideas for great games.

I have been here for a little while now, and it has surely helped me in my time of board gaming need, and everybody is really friendly.
