As far as Monopoly sales go:

I have worked on a Monopoly licensed product, so we got to meet with the people who only exist at Hasbro to deal with Monopoly licensed products. Their stats were pretty amazing. They figure that about 80% of Monopoly products (including Simpsons versions, Harley Davidson version, etc) are given as gifts. And they are guessing that well over 60% are never opened; they just sit on a shelf.

Ultimately, I figure that Hasbro has stopped selling Monopoly as a game many years ago. It

The assumption that games can only be judged subjectively is false. There are many objective criteria by which to judge a game. From a design point of view Puerto Rico IS a better game than Monopoly.

A good article which touches this subject is from one of Magic

To my knowledge, I have not pointed a finger at any consumer and said "they are stupid or lack ability for playing games like Monopoly et al".

The reason that this Model T Ford is still in showrooms to this date is because the Taurus is all but unheard of in this country.

As for boxes not putting cut off ages on games (3-6, 7-10 etc.) they certainly do. Children of Catan states 4-8, Candyland says 2-6. For some reason LIFE says 9 to Adult. Don

In your subjective opinion, of course (hee hee).

But only if one subjectively selects criteria that are heavily weighted in favor of German-style designs as the measure of "good". The criteria I personally like best, and strive to adhere to, are outlined by Wolfgang Kramer in a GamesJournal article called "What Makes a Game Good?" I posted a link to that article in the web links section.

But I think what we must keep in mind, as I said in my last post to Krakit, is that a game cannot be divorced from its intended "experience". Here

Not to "beat a dead horse" but I think the experience is key, and sometimes "what you put in is what you get out".

Meaning WHO and HOW you play the game can be as important as what game you are playing. (I did read that Knizia article where he stated he Only plays a certain game with a certain person, and no one else, cuz when he played with others it wasn

Points taken on both sides. Yet, I still boldly claim that German games are better. I won
