You may all already be aware of this, but I wanted to share, just in case.

I ran across this article in boardgamenews.com, from an excellent columnist in Italy, Andrea "Liga" Ligabue (I've trimmed it down):

"Once more this year at Lucca Games has been held the Best Unpublished Game Contest... the only contest for game designers which awards the winner with editorial production... the award went to F.A.T.A., thanks to the originality of the game-mechanics and to the great fun and entertainment it gives even to those who play it for the first time. To the young author goes, besides the congratulations of the whole jury and the award, one hundred copies of the commercial edition produced by Lucca Games and daVinci Editore. Just like Lucca Città, F.A.T.A. will be in the 2006 daVinci’s “Special Projects” series, directed by Domenico Di Giorgio.
Next Contest will be launched on the 28th of February 2006, Official Rules and Year’s Theme will be available (in English) on Lucca Games website

Good luck!

Hmmm... here's the link to the article:

I can't get his links to work - but I think it has to do with my office's firewall. Let me know if you can/can't get through by way of the article...

Hallo
This is the right link to the page of the contest:

-> http://www.luccacomicsandgames.com/05/fiera/premiati_games1.asp

There is not much more than what is in Liga article, but I hope that soon we will have some more informations on next edition. The contest is usually for a themed card game (the theme changing every year).

By the way, there are also other 2 contests actually running in Italy: the first is the Archimede prize, organized by Leo Colovini's StudioGiochi:

http://www.studiogiochi.com/eventi/archimede/index.html

The second is Mysteria, a contest for 'printable games' (to sell on a digital bookstore: Arima):

If you are interested, I wish you all the best! :)

Any idea what this phrase means? The literal babelfish translation is "Twenty and sails".

Hmm, that seems to be a showstopper...

I understand it as Wind & Sails

Venti can mean twenty, but is also the plural of vento (wind), as jstahl already pointed out.

Yeah, that's too bad. I mean, for an international contest, rules in english should be accepted.

The Lucca contest has always been attended by italian authors, of course. If anyone is interested in an italian translation of the rules, perhaps I can help.

By the way, the theme is "winds and sails", as someone pointed out.

Be careful with your offers, Paolo. You might get loaded with lots of rulebooks to translate.

I said "perhaps" ... ;). But if someone comes out with something interesting and needs a translator, PERHAPS we can agree for some kind of collaboration, exchange, (payment).

If y'all haven't checked, the above contest takes submissions in English or Italian.
