How to find similar games?

speaking of similar game play..ect. Is there an easy way to search out and find a list of games that may have the possibility of being similar? There are so many games out there it would be impossible to try them all. I'm interested because i have three newly finished prototypes. they play well, are beautifull in my oppinion and i think they are almost completely orrigional in concept and in play. unfortunately im' not sure how to make sure they are origional. i'm even wary of saying anything about these ideas because i have had ideas stollen before. i'm so NOT going down that road again! Any help at all would be great. these are my first completed prototypes and i would love to share them with the world if.. they are as i hoped.

Your best bet for this kind of thing is to check out the BoardGameGeek, a database with just about every game anyone's ever heard of. That site lets you browse games by mechanics (e.g, "bidding" or "action points"), or by category (e.g., "adventure", "civilization", etc). Between those features, you should be able to get a pretty accurate sampling of most of the games that could bear similarities to your own.

You have successfully described the opinion that just about everyone has about their own games. I say this simply to strongly recommend that you seek to establish a broader consensus for these views, preferably including people you don't know well, before making any major financial decisions about these games...

Could you share more details? The general consensus around here is that such things don't really happen in the game world. I'm sure we'd be interested to here a rebuttal of that viewpoint from a specific case where it did happen; you might help someone avoid the same thing happening to them.

Good luck with your games!

If you tell us what the game is about or maybe some mechinacs, we can save you some BBG searching, as most of us are pretty trust-worthy and wouldnt take any ideas.

Just hold on a sec before you tell us about your game, I need to write all your ideas down.... (just kidding)
