A concept in the making- A brand new tactical mmorpg.

I'm trying to get some small time publicity to hopefully provoke some interest in a project I’ve been constructing now for several years.

My idea has been to take features from many of the games I’ve most enjoyed in the past, (being a VERY avid gamer of both the pen and paper and video game world) and place all those features into a single, diverse environment.

The proposed goal of this project has been to construct a potentially persistent fantasy universe constructed with unique races, magic, mystery and the ever-fluctuating hues between that of light and darkness.

The premise of this world is to allow players to customize and construct empires that thrive, live harmoniously with, or plot the destruction of neighboring militant forces.

If I could best describe the types of games I’ve used as inspiration for this project, they would most definitely be games such as: Everquest (http://eqlive.station.sony.com/), Final Fantasy Tactics, Masters of Magic, the Warcraft series (http://www.blizzard.com/war3/), Romance of the Three Kingdoms series (http://www.koei.com/games/index.cfm) and games of that ilk.

Currently I have page after page of information pertaining to game play, features, statistics to hundreds of units, hundreds of unique and magical items, 16 chooseable religions (known as the followings), and 16 playable races (8 in which follow the darker path and 8 in which bend toward the light).

I have unique ideas to enable characters to customize their forces by holding powers over diverse schools of magic that may be used as defensive, or to devastate enemy units and places of specific interest such as enemy owned cities, or rare, highly sought after mineral deposits of material such as Mithril, or the powerful "gem ores" located across these worlds.

I'm currently in a stage of balance passing all my information, ensuring that the game runs smoothly during play and that each player has enough diversity in their own choices to ensure balance and tactical superiority based off personal choices instead of what could occur should (for example) one race be superior than another.

This is an armature project, though I have a very high interest in the chance that I might one day come to present my ideas to a sponsor or gaming company to turn this concept into reality.

Until that time might ever arise. This untitled game is going to remain within the realm of small time computer programs and pen and paper play. I'm always interested in anybody serious enough to attach themselves to such an endeavor, artists, programmers, webmasters, or just somebody knowledgeable enough in the RPG world that believes they might have some great ideas please get in contact with me and let's discuss those potential interests.

My email is Morgander_Bromzain@hotmail.com, you can also open up com channels with me through msn (using this e-mail of course) as I'm logged on almost every day.

I have also created a very basic message board so that I might keep up to date information for interested parties to view as progression on this project continues.

This is a board game design site, not a videogame design site, hence the title of the site.

Moved to Off Topic.

If I understand him correctly, he is trying to use video games to create a board game RPG. So this shouldn't be off topic. If he is talking about a video game though, then you're right.

Usually Pen & Paper games means Role Playing Games, so either way he's off topic.

According to the forum for this game:

... potentially persistent, multiplayer turn based tactical strategy role-playing game where the player builds upon a dynamic world, crafting magical armies, discovering mystic lands and unveiling races of ages past.

As I can see it, this game is something between a board game, a card game and a RPG (a dungeon crawler for a complete fantasy world with a higher level of RPG inside).

I have started to design this type a couple of times (a board/card game where you shall explore the world and it shall feel like a RPG) and always failed upon the size of the project. The hardest part has been the limitations (downsize the scope). Previous posts have indicated that several designers in this forum also have tried (and I have not seen anyone succeed with the task).

Stay tuned :) Once I finish up a couple of my current games, I have a RPG based board game that is in outline form and ready to be fleshed out. Well I should also mention that when I say RPG, I mean D&D style hack and slash gaming and not Role Playing (the acting out of a Role etc..).

I will agree that scope can get out of hand when trying to create an RPG related board game, but the best advice I can give someone trying to do this would be, look at it from an RPG module point of view. For instance, If you wanted to turn you favorite D&D module into a game, how would you do it?
