that is one of the words that i use often in conversation but rarely in writing, then i just go with probe or scout depending on the circumstance.

While were at it and really saying anything on this thread. Be carefull when using this word in french. It has many meaning like :

recognition
acknowledgment
survey
recognizance
scouting
reclassification

Thanks.

I've switched to 'Recon' now, instead. I've come to rely on the spell-check plugin I have for firefox, so using I.E. has started to throw me off.
