Who, if anybody, is going to go to KublaCon in San Francisco? It's a game onvention over Memorial Day weekend, AND they have a game design contest!

I will be checking it out, and I know Rick-Holzegraf will be there. Anybody else?

What does one bring to a Game Convention??

I've been to a couple conventions in the past, mostly for a Magic tournament that happened to be helpd at Hexacon. But I've never gone on a trip specifically to go to a convention. I find myself asking... What does one bring to a Game Convention??

Should I bring games?? Commercial or prototype?

Most of the time the organizers of the event will have set games scheduled at certain times and you should sign up for those if you'd like to play them. If you plan to play the scheduled games there's no need to bring anything. However almost always there are going to be informal 'pickup' games. This usually occur in between 'sessions' or after all the official events have ended for the evening. If you'd like to play games during this time, by all means bring some. I'd say even bring your own designs, especially if there is another designer that's going to be there. Perhaps you guys can grab a couple of each other's friends and get a playtest session going.

Oh keep in mind, that the time in between sessions is often used to get meals, so it may or may not be the best time to play your own stuff.

KublaCon - May 27-30

Hey there!
I've been there three times, twice when it was still Mana Fest back in '98 and '99 and then again in '03 when it was Kubla Con. It is fantastic. There is plenty of room for open gaming, 24hrs a day. You could go and never do a single set up event and never stop playing something. The staff was always great and the Hotel/Conv center they are in now is amazing. Take a little of everything, they usually have a free flea market for 2-3 hours each night, so if you wanted to try to sell w/ out shelling out for a booth. (which I'm sure would be sold out by now anyways) The game contest is pretty cool, best to send the game in early though, as they'll have more time to look it over. I know that in '03 they only had 12 entries, so they skipped the "only review top 10 openly" thing they talked about. The feedback was awesome (I "think" I was #3 that year, was hard to tell as they only gave # rankings for the top 2) Makes me wish I was still in Cali, I loved that con.... sigh... If you want/need more info, let me know, I'll fill in any holes I can.

***I will be there. It is a great show. I will have a table there selling and demoing my games. I hope also to get some playtesting done. I will be bringing a couple of game submissions to try out. People are welcome to join me of course. If I'm not at the booth I'll probably be hanging out with the Shadowfist CCG players.

See you there!
