I went to a huge charity garage sale this weekend and picked up a few game making supplies. It was $2 for a box and you could take home whatever you could fit in it. I went to the toy section and grabbed about 10 game boards among other things.

Most of the board were recognizable like candyland and checkers. There was one though that confused me. It was just plain green and had some sort of magnetic core in it that could be felt when it snapped closed.

Do you have any idea what game this was from? Do you have any ideas for a game that could use this board?

Nope. It is a regular monopoly-sized fold-in-half board. It is slightly padded and has a hard core that is magnetic. It is totally green and has the four suits printed in the center on one side.

Take this as a challenge :

Try to make out a new game with all the components you have?

When i was little, my dad had a set of like 5 or 6 (guessing at actual number) of "VERY NICE" board games that were obviously High quality for their time and several of them had magnetic cores... One was a racing game (actually my reason for my other thread) and another was a dog-fighting game. Bbut lots of them hda magnetic cores, I was so young that I dont remember the names or anything, maybe my mom will, I'll ask next time i see her.

Is there any "design" or obvious element to it, i do remeber a couple of them were war related, i think mainly civil war, but not sure.

I decided to check out eBay for this board and guess what I found?

Magnetic Kling Playing Cards with Magnetic Board

The special cards would magnetically stick to the surface. It was advertised as being windproof so you could play on the beach. I only have the green board so I'll have to take their word for it.

That's a pretty cool find! Last week, I bought a large bulk of magnetic sheets with plans of making game boards with them. I just have to get the rest of the graphics done and have a prototype printed.

This just occurred to me though - wouldn't it be kinda hard to shuffle a deck of magnetic cards?
