Hi All,

Our game, Battleground: Fantasy Warfare, was nominated for an Origins Award in the "Vanguard" category for unique games. As a consequence we're also nominated for the "Gamer's Choice Award" in the miniatures category. It'll be an interesting fight; Battleground is the most innovative game there (for the simple reason that it takes the minis out of minis!) and has gotten tremendous player and critical acclaim (e.g. BoardGameGeek, Tom Vasel calling it one of his top 20 of all time, etc.) but it's also unconventional...and Confrontation looks like tough competition.

If anyone here has played Battleground enough to feel like they can vote, I'd definitely appreciate the support! Awards are absolutely critical for small publishers. (Of course, if you've played but still think something else deserves the vote, that's OK too although it may cause angels to cry.)

Voting is done online at:

All the best,
Chad

I'd seen Battleground on a few lists but never looked into it before. There are some very clever ideas here!

I really like the idea of using dry erase pens on the cards themselves, and the movement system, which limits moves to easily measured units (um, what's the opposite of granularity? chunkiness?) is a smart solution. Having a limited number of orders seems like it would help streamline the game -- a welcome addition to tabletop fights.

I'll have to pick a copy of this one up. I like miniature combat, but never actually buy miniatures. The last game like this I tried must have been TSR's Battle System -- which was actually more fun to prepare for than play.

Good luck, Chad! I hope your work gets recognized at Origins.

Congrats. I've always been really impressed with the ideas behind the game and am currently working on a game that I secretly think of as a cross between Battlegrounds, Shadows Over Camelot, and Settlers of Catan. In short, you're in good company. ;o)

Congratulations and best of luck with the awards (and resulting sales bump). You guys deserve it.

Cheers,
Rob

Good luck to you.

Too bad I bought a load of Alchemist for Confrontation. Is it an expensive game to acquire? I just ask, I haven't took the time to look it up anywhere.

Have a good day.

Battleground is about as cheap to pick up as any serious game out there. Two people can play a real game out of a single $15 starter deck (as long as you don't mind playing Orcs vs. Orcs or some other civil war conflict) and if you want to buy a complete faction you just buy one starter and one reinforcement deck for $30 total. (Less online, obv.)

Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone! :)
