it's funny... i generally log on and do stuff online in the middle of the night till the sun comes up (west coast USA).

often there are many people logged on according to the little thingy in the corner... but the forums don't change in terms of new posts until the next day.

what the heck are you all doing online here on the BGDF in the middle of the night when you aren't posting things?

do you just log on and check it out then leave it going to sleep?

are you like me? do you log on, check things, post one or two things then sit at the desk watching late night movies, jotting things down in your notebook, and generally spacing out for hours on end?

what'chya doin'?

Actually, yes, I do. I don't really fit into the "boardgame" category, as I lean more toward dice game and role-playing games, but I see some interesting threads and ideas now and then; if I see something more in my element, I'll post but generally I try to keep out of everyone's way. =)

why are you online?

I've been online just waiting for a thread like this to appear, so I could get my first post, posted! :)

Seriously though...I read almost every thread and topic that this great forum has to offer, it inspires me to be more creative with the few games that I have currently in development. I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts on here, and although you may not know me very well, I feel as though I know the regular posters here very well indeed. lol.

I have always been tempted to start adding my thoughts to each thread that interests me, but for some reason, I stop myself from doing so at the last moment. Maybe that will change, should I create a thread of my own, discussing a game or 2 that I have in development at some point in the future? Only time will tell.....

So unless, posting here becomes a mandatory thing for members of this site to do, then I'll probably continue to just read and absorb all I can from everyone else's input.

Regards,

Pman

You really should! I agree with what you're saying though. This website is creative information heaven. I don't post much here while I'm focused on a current project, but love to login and just be a sponge...

We'd like to know what you're working on. You never know - you might strike a creative spark in someone else.

Welcome Pman!

Welcome Pman!

I second what Keith says to you. Partially because one of his games helped me think of something and also because of the great support the members of this site give to each other.

Welcome and good luck with your games!

Well I guess I'm like Nazhuret most of the time. I like to log on, check things, post one or two things then sit at the desk watching late night movies, jotting things down in my notebook, and generally spacing out for hours on end.

At the moment I'm just trying to soak up some creativity, since I'm stuck in the middle of moving and I can't get to my gaming/designing materials.

I'm usually online late at night because I have a girlfriend who is an insomniac lol.

I come to BGDF for the same reason as the rest of you, to read the forums, and check out what other people are up to. It really gets the creative juices flowing!

I also tend to copy some of the game ideas and notes that I've written down on paper during the day into my journal.

I'm just beggining to design games again. I used to create games when I was 15 or so, and now (35) I started again. I'm working on a tennis game right now, but there are so many things I haven't defined yet that it's hard to post anithing concrete about it.

Anyway, I was looking for sites about game design and found this forum, to which I subscribed immediatly. It has great reading material that really helps as food for the game designer's mind. :-)

I work at home as a graphic/web designer, have ADSL, and BGDF is set as my homepage, so from the moment I turn on my computer I'm usually logged on. Every now and then I check for new messages, and I try to follow alost every thread.

As a begginner, I rearely have something to add, but a lot to learn, su I lurk most the time.

Well by the time I actually finish the normal daily grind, it is usually late and that is when I finally have a chance to sit down and enjoy some of my hobbies.

I love this forum... It has all the good stuff and none of the worthless trolls!

I have been posting over at www.indie-rpgs.com but every time i try and get some conversation started someone will say, in so many words, that they are sick of new people asking questions blah blah blah.... a lot of them have NO tolerance for someone who is new to the game development scene.

this board fosters newcomers, and helps out with every question no matter how elementary.

I know i lurk these boards quite a lot, but when i have ideas for posts i dont post them either.

I'll reconsider next time i think of something

This seems to be common, but I would like to tell anyone that reads the forums (and this post), join in and post!!!

Just realize that talking about your ideas, your thoughts, your questions will help everyone in the long run.

Talking about your ideas help foster creative thinking for anyone that reads the post and joins in the discussion.

Talking about our thoughts help everyone get input, other points of view, which might help people see a solutions or a problems that they may never have noticed without others talking about it with them on the forum.

As you mentioned zombie, I love this forum, and I think that part of the reason is the people. The more people that interact the better in my opinion!

I'll expand on Zzzzz's thoughts one more step ... making yourself write down your thoughts/ideas into a form that someone else can read and make sense of will help you in turning a jelly-like idea into something more tangible and workable. Usually (for me anyway) that first written example of an idea turns out to be not as great as it seemed when it was just floating around in the brain ... however, once it's down in a physical form, it can be sculpted and grown and shaped into something better.

As one of the "old guard" here, I know I sometimes get a bit tired answering the same old questions over and over again, particularly of the "I invented the new monopoly/trivial pursuit, I really can't tell you anything more about it, but it really is the best thing since the invention of the boxershort, but how do I copyright/trademark/patent it?" variety.

However, I also understand that newcomers will want to know the answer to such things (I know I did when I just started out!). Unfortunately, the forums are a bit cumbersome to search through, so I can understand not everyone will be able to find the answer to their questions after a forum search. On the positive side, the admins are working on a site redesign that will make finding the answers to such questions much easier. Until that time we'll just have to make do and answer ye same olde questions again, and again, I guess ;)

Anyway, don't let anything stop you from posting your ideas, questions and comments on this forum and starting a discussion. That's what this whole website is about, after all.

Happy posting!
