I've come up with a SoC variant that combines some of the better elements of the SoC card game with the original game.

I use a Deck of Dice with 40 cards. The 36 from the standard Deck of Dice, 2 reshuffle cards, and 2 event cards.

The event cards are comparable to rolling a ? in the card game. There is an event deck, and the player who gets an event card in the dice deck draws a card from the event deck. The event deck includes things like:

productive year, every player gets a resource of their choice
drawing player gets one development card
locusts; all grain in player's hands is lost
civil war: all harbors are useless until a player draws a 7 as their normal "roll"

Basically, most of the event cards from the card game can be ported to the board game, and I have ideas for some more cards.

Sounds really cool. What are you going to do with it? Publish or make it free? I'd like to give it a whirl.

I don't think there is much chance of publishing it. Since Mayfair makes SoC, the SoC card game, and the deck of dice (at least in the US), they'd probably object to anyone else publishing what I'm describing. They also aren't exactly the easiest company for an unknown deisgner to approach.

I'd consider making PDF's available but even that might get me sued.

A few sample cards for the dice deck are now HERE.

I'm using a ray tracer to create the dice images, but I'm not sure they look good at the angles they're tilted at; it might look better face-on (that would also be easier).

Once the deck is made, it will be impossible to make changes without re-doing the whole deck, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear them now :).

Thanks,
Jason

Yeah, I'd go with either just the face, or maybe a normal Isometric view (for the pic, and just the face for the small one by the number).
