"Thematic, player-controlled weather" is an oxymoron.

Sigh, and so, it begins.

So is Doho running it in order to keep him from getting yet another win?

A question: can the darkness be induced by the weather (as in a storm, when it looks like it's night time, even in the middle of the day)?

Or should the dark and storm factors be independent?

While final judgement is reserved for the judges, I am inclined to say that there is nothing in the limitations that say the two limitations can't be linked in some way; so I would say based on your basic description, I would allow it.

[EDIT]
Doho already answered it...

The way I understand it, the dark/light-requirement is more a mechanic-requirement, while the weather-requirement is a more theme-requirement.

The way I see it, they could be combined...
Light/dark is about playing this game (which is (amongst other things)about wheather) in a dark or lighted environment.

Just how I interpreted the rules...

Cheese!

Thanks for the answers. :-)

I'm still trying to figure out what to do, both in theme, mechanics and the technical side of a dark-game, but I don't want to go for one idea and then dicover that it doesn't comply with the rules.

My interpretation was that darkness being a consequence of the weather was ok, bur just wanted to be sure.

I think the weather has to be more than a theme right. Players have to affect the weather and in turn the weather has to affect the game play. is this right?

Yes, I understand weather plays a bigger role than just a theme.

For clarification:

The dark limitation is merely a play mechanic; it inherently asks for no "themeing," and is not required to be. However, ther is also no reason that it can't be themed either.

The weather limitation is also a play mechanic which is additionally "themed" as such, and carry whatever amount of logical weight that the theme requires, which will most likely be one of the weights that the judges most likely will balance when voting.

It appears I've broken the GDS. Two days away from last call for game design proposals and I haven't received an entry yet!! I've come to expect big things from you guys!!!

(Or is everyone planning on dumping their games in my lap all at once at the final hour?)

At least the system hasn't been hacked during your week... (he says, tempting fate ;-))

(Mind you, I was a bit confused that the deadline was apparently Thursday 21st March. I'm assuming you meant Thursday 23rd March...)

Revising for exams, and no good idea I can type up in half an hour means that I think I'm dropping out for this month at least. Sorry.

I don't know about the others, but I always wait 'till the last minute, not just to submit my GDS entry but usually my votes too. This only shows how professional I am about game design, as I never finish my job assignments before the deadline. ;-)

I'm out too, and probably heading into GDS retirement. But I'll keep voting, so at least we'll have more voters than designers. :)

After a first "Yipee, more chances to extend my winning streak" impulse, ;-) I have to say that is really bad news. I just hope your retirement is only temporal.
