Hello,

My question is, how do you find an artist willing to help you create the artwork for your game?

Thanks

P.S. Sorry if this message doesnt belong in this section.

The thread might fall more into Game Production, but I leave that to the administrators. :-)

If you want somone who would work for free, you should probably look for some art student looking for interesting jobs to include in a portfolio. You might also have some luck here, if the game is interesting enough to the potential illustrators.

I would start by posting a brief description of your game and what exactly are you looking for in terms of illustration, basically style and a list of which elements need to be created (e.g. 55 cards, a board, box, rulebook examples, etc.). You might also want to clarify if you need someone to just do illustration or graphic design too, as "artwork" might be ambiguous. Another important issue would be at which stage the game is: Is this artwork for a prototype or publishing? Is it for early playtesting, blind-playtesting, submitting to a publisher, self publish?

I'm looking for someone to do good-quality dark age/mediaeval European imagery: warriors, priests, angels, holy/mythical relics, some fantastic creatures, landscapes, and so on. I'm working on a card game that's somewhat like MtG, but perhaps a little more elabourate (with cards, chips, and dice) and not quite as fantastic.

NetWolf,

Are those your creations? If so, they're very nice and pretty close to the style for which I am looking.

Here, take a look at this link:

http://well-of-souls.com/tower/index.html

It's a link to a fansite for the old Dark Tower (DT) game. I'm looking for someone who can do artwork in the same style as Bob Pepper, who was the artist for DT.

Anyhow, if you can do something like that, let me know. I'll probably start another thread soon about my game concept. For the moment, I'm calling it "Tabletop Empire" and I have a very basic prototype that I've played with my son.

Ooh, good choice! Art Nouveau with a gritty twist.... love it.

Yep, all of those are my works. Some are a few months old and I have progressed a bit further; the Mandrake being my latest piece, though the image on DA is a little washed out.

Hmm.....I can do similar to that, but not exact. I like the knight image with the mace. Very remnicient of a stained glass window. It looks like he's doing heavy watercolor washes and on some it even looks like he may be painting on wood!

NetWolf,

That "stained glass" look is definitely what I'm going for. It would, in my opinion, be appropriate to the era that I'm trying to depict.
