Hi - I am designing a dvd trivia game and need all your great advice. I would like the game to be played with two teams, the issue is how to interact with the dvd, the 2 options I am exploring are as follows:
1) have a buzzer for each team (so that every question is all play) and when the question comes up on the screen, have the team buzz in first to answer the question (the problem I see is that there may also be teams arguing with who pressed the buzzer first...), don't know f the buzzer creates enough of a gaming experience
2) have a dice with the different categories that each team roles to answer the question (so the questions are individual play) if that team gets it wrong the turn passes to the next team and so on
would really appreciate all your thoughts!! thanks
Yes, dice would be cheaper, but a lock-out buzzer is actually VERY easy to create (as far as a prototype is concerned) IF you are handy with electronics and can follow some simple schematics. I actually built exactly what you're talking about. There are two switches, whoever hits their switch first lights their side's light, activates a buzzer and locks out their opponent's switch (exactly like the podium in Family Feud). It was actually for a homemade electronic fencing judge, but the function is identical to what you're talking about.
If you're interested, I can send you some crude schematics and a parts list (or I could upload them here for any who are interested).
Just remember, if you're not planning to self-publish (and with the DVD aspect, it doesn't sound like you are), it's up to the game company that buys your game to figure out the details of it (the eBay game has a much more complicated mechanism).
