My personal opinion is that people will be more likely to prepare/play your game if it looks like you put some serious effort / planning into making your game. Otherwise it seems like it

Ummm... what Darke said. Gamers love crunchy bits. Designers are somewhat less impressed with them... but the average game player will buy a total piece of cr**p with crunchy bits, while ignoring a well designed product with bland presentation.
