Hexagon Boards...

I've been trying to create a hexagon board on my computer but I can't seem to do it. Does anyone know of a program that can build hexagon boards like this or do you have suggestions for what I could do?

I've used Fireworks in the past to create hex boards. It does pretty well. Are you looking for just an empty hex board with no artwork?

I think there was a recent thread in the game production section on this topic. Go check out all the info there.

Their post didn't necessarily answer mine (I checked there before posting this), I guess I will have to try that.

Not sure if this helps you or not, but check out the following site. You can enter in your own dimensions and create hex grids, download as pdf file.

Online hex grid paper

If you go to other graph papers they also have other online grid creation (dotted, blocks, metric, etc).

There are hex grids available for download on this site (see Downloads). They are modular, so you can print multiple pages and glue them together for boards of any size. This is useful for prototyping.

I also use CorelDraw to great effect. Making a hex grid is as easy as defining a single hex, copying it, and then shifting the copy down one hex length. Copy both hexes, and shift the copy down two hexes, etc. Once you have a column of hexes, copy and shift the copy left 1/2 space and up/down 1/2 space. It sounds complicated, but if you do it this way you're doubling the amount of work you can do in each step, so it goes quickly.

Or try this: TRACE the downloadable hex grid I told you about earlier. Most vector graphic design programs have a trace function that converts a .bmp/.jpg/.gif etc type file into a vector graphic...which can be reshaped and modified as you please! Hope this helps.

Oh yeah! There's a free open-source vector graphics program for download called GIMP (Downloads again). I've heard some good things about it, although I don't use it myself. Maybe this will help?
