Just need a simple brainstorming. You know about this space ship rally game I talked about. I need a list of ideas of what could be find as an hazard in space.

I took a few idea from Master of orion and some star trek cards. But I am not a big sci-fi fan, so I wanted to know if you know what kind of hazard we can find in space. I need to know the nature of the hazard and what is the effect on a space ship ( whatever the technology type). I classified these hazard in 3 categories : Natural, Artificial, Encounters. By the way, it is a fantasy sci-fi world so magic exist ( think phantasy star ).

Here is what I found so far :

[Natural Hazard]

- Asteroid Field
Ship can be hit by asteroid, must dodge
- Nebula
Maybe affect shields functionality
- Black Hole
Can change course of the ship
Can create structural damage
- Null Space
Pocket of space that absorb energy
- ??? Particle Field
??? Effect
- Space magic node
Boost magic spells in a certain area

[Artificial Hazard]

- Explosive Mine Field
Mines can hit ship and make a lot damage.
- Paralysing Mine Field
Grip on the ship and destabilise system.
- Turret Mine
A mine equiped with weapon that fire ships

[Encounter Hazard]

- Pirates
- Space Dragon
- Space Lifeform
- Space Crystal
- Other ship passing by

Any other idea is welcome.

actually just look in an astronomy book

ENCOUNTERS

space sea creatures

energy lifeforms

Here's some ideas:

- Ancient War Zone (Like asteroid field except with ship debris)
- Quarantined Zone (Some kind of infectious agent in the area)
- Wormholes

Ion Storm (dissrupts ship electrical systems/shields)
Antimatter (big damage on ships)
Dark Energy/Matter (slows ships and drains energy)

Artificial Hazards
Jump Gate (move to an unknown location)
Deralict ship (avoid or investigate)
Shipping lane (large ships to avoid)

Distress signal (do you help or not?)
Assasin Drone (it's out to get you...)

To be honest, when you are dealing with the cosmos, you can create anything that you want. With scifi, your imagination is the limit.

But then again, I want it to be a bit scientifically logical. You now, If I declare that a ion field desintegrate the hull of the ship while it should not do this according to modern physics ( or an ion field should simply not exist in space), then some people could make some criticism about the theme of my game.

But then again, I am making a world with magic in it. So like my friend said: "in a world where there is fireballs, everything si possible".

First hazard I ever think about when it takes place in space is like Airlock failure, you know, not an event from outside (there*s not so much happening in space) but technical fallouts. Hull damage, engine failures, life support system instable, sunfilter doesn*t protect/work, docking gate doesn*t reply (link unit stuck, can*t dock to refuel), gravity stabilizer malfunction (ship swirls around its own axis) or even alien bacteria infestation ;)
