Stories needed for party game!

You may have seen my journal about the party game that I guess would be in the vein of Mindtrap or Two Minute Mysteries...

What I would like to do is get together a few good, intricate stories that are not obvious. The plots of stories I already know for this game are as follows:

A man kills himself when he finds out his friends had fed him human flesh (and told him it was seagull) while stranded on a deserted island. He liked the seagull, and so went to a restaurant to order some, and upon tasting it he realized what had actually happened.

A man kills his wife and tapes the radio show which he hosts for an alibi. The tapes skips thereby blowing his alibi, so he commits suicide rather than face the consequences.

A one-armed man delivers another one-armed man a box. The box contains the first man's arm, and he's giving it because they had made a deal earlier in life...

These are all a bit morbid, but I expect a more light-hearted story could be done as well.

I'll be using this thread to brainstorm, so feel free to do the same.

Thanks,
- Seth

Police find a man dead. A small autistic boy says he saw the man kill himself. What he really means is he saw his twin brother kill him.

A man is found face down in a swimming pool with his clothes on. It's not his house, nor did he drown. He fell from a plane.

A man kills his mother and his wife at the hospital his mother is staying at. He is completely ashamed to tell authorities why he killed his wife of 17 years and his loving mother. The truth is, on her deathbed, his mother tells him his wife is actually his long lost sister.

The last one I got from a riddle, so it's not really usable, but I thought I'd share it.

A woman meets a nice man at her mother's funeral. She falls absolutely in love with him, but doesn't get a chance to get his phone number.

A week later she kills her sister.

Reason: She wanted to see him again.

I'm told that last one is apparant to people who share traits with serial killers. :)

These are some pretty morbid riddles... not that it's a bad thing! :)

If everyone's mind is tilting this way, why not make it part of the game? Give it a mystery theme, put a skull on the box, package black candles with every copy, and you'll have something that could be worth pulling out every Halloween, or during a dark and stormy night.

If "How to Host a Murder" took off, why can't this?

Thanks for those great suggestions, Bandecko!

Has anybody tried this "game" out? It can be a lot of fun if you have time to kill.

Here's one I heard many many moons ago.

During a dinner party, the guests heard a loud crash and everyone got up from the table and went into the next room to see what occurred. They found Harry and Grace lying in a pool of water and broken glass, dying from asphyxiation. The cat with its back arched hissed at the final death throws of the couple. One of the guests was a local constable and he determined it was murder.
Who were Harry and Grace, and how was it murder?
They were fish, and the cat knocked their fishbowl over trying to get at them.

That's a good, thematic version of the fish thing, but unfortunately I'd already heard [some version of] it :/

Good suggestion though, and thanks for bringing this thread back to life!

Check out the journal entry (Party Game Idea- Rudimentary Role Playing) and see if you have any ideas for the rules... especially in making it "competetive"

Two men are lying dead in a house, one with a lot of shotgunshrapnel in his chest (Henry) and the other without apparent wounds(Dave). A woman comes in and starts screaming, she runs out of the house and crosses a street without looking and gets hit by a passing car. We know Henry comitted adultery(how do you spell that?) with Dave's wife, only dave was never man enough to do anything about it until a few moments ago. Dave had this terrible cough for a while and some shooting pains in his chest. He's been to the docter and heard he only had a few days to live, so he thought what the heck, if I go, that basterd sure as heck isn't going to get my wife.

I've heard of a few different published versions of the kind of game before, and it's an interesting concept but one problem is once you know the solution, it can't be solved any more. Although one idea to expand your sellibility is to be constintly be writing "expansions" with new mysterous, though I don't know how many one could write without going over the same stuff.

Actually. you can't really even define this as a game (not that's it's a bas thing). A game needs conflict, so unless there are teams competing alternitly to solve the puzzles as like "win lose or draw" or "cherades" this game is a puzzle. The definition of a puzzle and a game is given in more deph by Chris Crawford in his exelent book, "ON GAME DESIGN". It's centered on computer game design, but there's a lot of stuff thatr applies ot other kinds of games as well. This should be required reading for all game designers.

See my journal entry entitled "Rudimentary role playing"... I propose a way to "keep score" for this "game".
