As a newbie to game design I have a simple question. Is there a good resource for tile laying game mechanics?

Thanks for the link. That was helpful. And thanks for asking for specifics. It's 'forcing' me to think about exactly what I want and not just the theme. I want it to have a resourcing aspect also. It's a deconstructing/reconstructing kinda thing. I'm leaning toward a 'Settlers'/'Carcassonne' hybrid I think. Is there anything like that out there.

Heh, I don't know if there's anything like that exactly, maybe Nautilus is sort of similar- tile laying where the tiles "produce" resources- but the reason I laugh is that this sounds like the game described in the Full Frontal Nerdity comic strip referenced in another thread.
