July's Albany "playfest" went so well that we're ready to start talking about scheduling another get-together! Let's use the same scheduling concept we used last time to pick a date. Post a reply and next to each date, put "XX" if you're better than 67% likely to be able to attend that date, "X" if you're better than 33% likely to be able to attend that date, and leave it blank if you're unlikely to be able to attend.

So, using myself as an example:

Sept 11 XX
Sept 18 X
Sept 25 XX
Oct 2 XX
Oct 9 X
Oct 16
Oct 23 XX

(subject to change, of course).

All who are interested in attending, fill out a similar schedule and we'll see what will work best. After we pick a date, we can work out details of location, time, etc. Hope we can get enough to run two tables this time. See you all soon!

I'm with Scurra on that one. So when are you all coming down to Oz for a 'Canberra PlayFest'?

If nothing else you're probably getting a good idea of who's NOT coming!

Although I'd love a trip to London or Oz!!! Or even AZ!!!!

Another Playfest would be great, despite the fact that I've done a shamefully tiny amount of game design work since PowWow.

Sept 11
Sept 18 XX
Sept 25
Oct 2
Oct 9 XX
Oct 16 *
Oct 23 XX

...and you can see why. Suddenly, I've just been much busier with Other Things! (this is also why I'm not as active on the boards as I used to be...)

* Note that October 16 is UberCon, which is the game convention I volunteer for. That might sound like an unrelated shill, but I am running a Prototype Game Workshop at the convention on the 16th. More details are in this thread...

Thanks for organizing this!

OK, looking at the X's...

September 11, September 25, October 23 start off the most promising. These are the days that Jeff and I (as local organizers) rate as XX.

September 11 only has a partial chance of pulling in Steve, and it's probably too close now to effectively plan.

September 25 has a good chance of attracting Steve and Zzzzzzzz, but looks like no chance from Gil.

October 23 allows Gil to come, but loses both Steve and Zzzzzzzz.

We still haven't heard from Tom. Since he is a local, and he hosted last time, we really need to hear from him before making concrete plans, but it looks like September 25th may be leading the pack. If we don't hear from him, or if he can't make any of the dates, I can start to find an alternative location (calling a couple of local game shops to see if they can spare one of their miniatures tables for a day, or asking my wife's permission to host)

Hmm, looks like we just can't find a date that can accomodate everyone's schedule. Bummer. It looks like the Sept 25 is the most promising, and so I propose we move ahead with that date, with sincere apologies to Gil and sincere hopes that Tom's schedule permits him to make it!

Tom, Mike, and I will consult about location and get back to everyone with info on where to go. As for what time to start, it seems like the only "out of towners" currently are the Rochester crew, so you guys let us know -- what time would you like to start and end in order to be able to accomodate your drive?

Incidentally, I think the solution to scheduling difficulties is just to have these often enough that no one feels too left out if they have to miss one! Do I hear any dates for "Winter Playfest", anyone?

See you all soon, and to others who haven't chimed in yet, there's still time to do so!

Hmm, maybe the winter event should be in arizona so we don't have folks from Rchester driving 5+ hours in the snow ;-)

peace,
Tom

The times of the previous session worked out well. I think we scheduled the start at around 1 and going until around 8 or 9. That gave everyone there a chance to have a game tested with a goo dnumber of participants present.

Hmmm, I was surprised at how close Albany is to much of Massachusettes and some major cities in Canada (hint, hint).

I'm sorry I can't make it, and I hope everyone has a great time and a productive session. It could be a lot worse; I've gotten lots of great feedback about my games lately, and now I'm at a point where I need to do more work than garner advice. Still, it was great hanging out, and I really enjoy seeing how good everyone else's games are.

I'll probably have my games in playtest form by October for the Ubercon Prototype Workshop, and I hope to see some of you there.

Otherwise, here's to a winter playfest!

Ok, it's official. Our Fall get-together will be this coming Saturday, Sept 25, at my place in Troy, NY. Last time, we went from 1-8, and that time frame seemed to work fine, though I wouldn't mind starting a little earlier if that was everyone's preference; we'll let the out-of-towners have the last say on that.

So, please IM or PM me if you'll be coming, your ETA, and your email address if I don't already have it, so I can email you my address and/or directions.

Looks like currently we'll have a solid 4, and an appearance by Tom for an as yet unspecified length of time. But, just to state again, there's plenty of room for more if anyone else wants to come out! Just let us know!

Hope to see you Saturday!

My wife's family lives in Forrest Lake, Minnesota (not too far from the twin cities). Next time we're out for a visit we'll have to get together with all the MN members for a MN game session!

Well since I am a night owl these days, I wanted to just post and say I really enjoyed the playtest session.

All of the games where amazing and beyond anything that I expected. All of you had at least one game I would play multiple times in the future (well the pattern game of toms might scare me off ;), since I could not gain the hand-eye coordination needed at first, but I think I would still try it again and again just to see if I could get better at it).

And I really feel that none of them truely had any major flaws that could not be easily repaired (some may not even need any changes). And I look forward to seeing updated and revised version in the future.

Jeff thanks again for hosting. I hope I can make it out in the future.

***I'm back after a long hiatus from the boards - never enough hours in the day to do everything. If you guys schedule another meeting around Albany let me know as I'm about 2 hours south and east of it (I live in Mahopac, NY). If I'm not at a con and have advance notice, I can probably make it.

Thanks!

I second this. Though I don't have as much time as I used to for the boards, I'm still very eager to meet people to help playtest my games. Wag the Wolf will hopefully be ready for another bout of live playtesting in a few weeks or so. Hopefully we can give it a try then?

I read about Michael's toy game in the GDW... that's one I'd love to playtest in person!

I'm not sure whether we'll be able to get another session in before the new year; I assume that trying to schedule a Saturday in December that works for everyone will basically be impossible, and getting something together before Thanksgiving may just be too soon. I'm willing to try if there's enough interest, and could probably host again.

The good news is that I really think there could be enough attendees next time, whenever that is, to permit us to break up into two tables. This would be great, as it would let us get everyone's designs on the table without having to go through the rather draining process of playtesting 5 different games in a day. It's a fun process, but it is draining!

Hope to see you all soon,

-Jeff

Well I think the holidays are upon us and I might be able to find a day, but it will be hard.

If I had to rate the next two months (using the blank X, XX system)

Nov 6th
Nov 13th
Nov 20nd X
Nov 27th

Dec 4th X
Dec 11th X
Dec 18th
Dec 25th

And that would be about it... and even the marks dates are not high guarantees....
