Bump and a reminder for our first meeting:

June 10th, 10:00 AM. We will meetup at the Second Cup downtown. By metro, go to Guy-Concordia station (green line) and exit by Sortie Guy. Turn left and go down Guy street. Then you will be on Ste-Catherine. Go toward the Faubourg Ste-Catherine (see metro map). Second Cup is there.

Then we eat, and if there's enough interest, we will continue our discussion and play some games in a public place near the coffee shop:

Our first meeting was a success! (it ended at around 5:00 with a game of Fantasy Pub between 3 of us)

Everybody (5) who confirmed was there at the coffee shop: Hugues, Eric, Benoit, Francois and myself. Thank you, it was nice meeting you. By the way, Jebbou couldn't make it this time. We hope to see you soon to our next meeting!

We planned a next meeting on july 8 at around 1:00 PM. I think the time is still to be discussed depending on how many people want to go earlier. We could also have two starting time. Location will be different but very close: Concordia University Hall building. 1455 de Maisonneuve West (near the Guy-Concordia metro, the cross street is MacKay) On the big marble tables, you can't miss them. They are to the left when you enter.

PS: I setup a basic wiki for organizing our group. I wanted to update it live but the wifi hotspot wasn't free. Feel free to add to it and to modify it (en francais ou en anglais)

Greetings everyone,

We had a great first session on June 10, even if alot of aspiring creators couldn't make it. We decided that our next meetings will be every second Saturday of every month at Concordia University from 13:00 (having a fixed time will be less confusing). The address is 1455 de Maisonneuve West (near the Guy-Concordia metro, the cross street is MacKay). For our next session we will meet in the main lobby, talk a while, and then make our way to the 7th floor cafeteria.

Everyone is welcomed and invited to introduce their prototypes for testing. You don't have to bring a game (we need testers too). I, for myself, will show my latest creation: Albedo, Hard Jump.

So we'll see you July 8.

I'll try to show up Saturday 13h00 for few hours.
I don't know if I'll bring my game, but I'll gladly help playtest others.

Guys don't forgot your NDA if you need them

Jaro, can you bring an example of the Albedo comic book. I want to see how the theme of your game looks like. If I play, I want to play the neutral camp, it sounds so cool.

I also suggest that we bring 1 commercial game each ( in case we lack of prototypes ) that you think that something good to teach to other designers. Some commercial games can help us get new ideas.

By the way, will there be anyother people outside the forum?

Is there some microwaves at the cafereria of concordia?

And finaly what is an NDA?

NDA : Non Disclosure Agreement.

For me, before revealing my game, i wanted such a document to protect the project. But i probably won't bring it this week-end, i might, but it all depends on WHEN i can get there.

Yes, there are microwaves.

By the way, Le festival Fantasia (6 - 24 juillet) est à Concordia. Il n'y aura pas de problèmes pour le 7ième étage mais le lobby risque d'être plein de monde!

Guys, I will be seeing three movies on Sat. afternoon, at the Fantasia. At what time do you guys finish? I might come upstairs after the movies (around 18h30). I do not plan on staying though, my GF will be waiting for me.

I'm afraid it's more of an afternoon thing. I dont know for the others, but I plan on leaving at around 5. And yes Larienna, I was planning to bring some issues of Albedo to show the origin of my inspiration and to give an idea of what that world is like.

See you there.

Since it`s fantasia, will they let us in! Probably yes since it is a university.

Well meet at 1h, if there are other people that wishes to stay after 5, we will continue else we will end it.

We might have a different group in the afternoon and night.

I dont`have any NDA and I don`t think I intend to have any of these for my games. Anyways, they are far from being complete games.

See you tomorrow!

How did the review goes on Saturday. I'm sorry I could not stay longer. Nice summer week end day is more a family day for me and without any car, transporting myself isn't as easy. (I just hope that my new car will be ready this week).

Jaro, Larianna how did the Albedo review went?

Soulbeach were you around? I would like to try your game someday.
How many players do you support?

Question to all:
On the next meeting should we focus on one or two games, or we play as be pleased? Example, hpox game look very neet and clean, but I'm more drawn (personnaly) to euro style board game. Unless we agree on which game to playtest, we could frustrate few people because we're not playing their games. I would not like to have this situation happen. Any comments ?

Have a good day.

Hi everyone, i sent an email yesterday but i will repeat it here, it's all in french, sorry!

moins que le desir de continuer soit de la partie :)

Donnez-moi des nouvelles!

Je ne veux pas manquer l'occasion de se rencontrer, si ca vous va, es-ce qu'ont peut se rencontrer dimanche le 23 juillet?

Hi everyone,

I really enjoyed our last meeting as I got to test my little wargame. I got some comments and a lot of suggestions. I was kind of looking for the opposite. I'm gonna bring it again next meetings as I now need to do a lot of playtest for balancing the three different factions. At the same time I'll be checking if the appeal of the game is still there. Also I think we should ban commercial games for they were kinda disruptive. We'll never run out of prototype to test, don't worry. And Soulbeach, sorry but I'm afraid I'll only show up at the next meeting, witch is to say, next august 12.

Again, thank you all for showing up and work on your prototypes for next time we meet.

Jaro,

This time should be for playtest our game, but this isn't always easy. Since your game was a 3 players games, some players are left over. How can we accomode everybody?

Focus on one game per session? (A bit like the Game Design Workshop) or a more adlib meeting?

My game is a 5 players game, what happen if we are 7 designer this week.

Maybe I'm thinking too much.

I think We should not bother which game we will test. We bring all our playable prototypes, people who absolutely want to test their game insist that they want a playtest in this session. Game that are in beta stages will require more intense play testing than those in alpha stage. Since we have a few games that plays with only 2-3 players, we can easily split the group to play these game.

Albedo was nice, playing the neutral faction was so cool, definately my type. There are still improvements that can be done, but the basics are really good. I could say that this game is in beta stage. I have sent a list of comments and suggestions to Jaro through PM.

Also take note that it is possbile that we cannot see each other on some weeks. It's normal that sometimes people are going to be missing, and I might be missing a few of them when school starts again. But from what I have heard, there are still gaming days at concordia on the 1st and maybe on the 3rd week each month. So if at least 2 or 3 of us can agree to show ourself in one of these mettings, we can always find additional players in the gaming group. But going there alone with your prototype might not work.
