Roller dices

Hi Guys. I've looked through the web resources, and done a few searches through the archives here, but have had very little luck.

What I'm trying to figure out is what the roller mechanism used in pencil cricket (see Owzthat game) / pencil football is called - is it a "hexagonal roller"? One of the links in the web resources described the roller as a hexagonal prism, but I can't seem to find anyone that produces them when doing a google search (I've found lots of other dice manufacturers, but none of them seem to produce this roller!).

Has this roller mechanism got another name that it normally goes by? Does anyone know a manufacturor that will produce custom versions (eg a roller shaped like a bottle)?

I'd be grateful for any tips.

Cheers

TwoBob

BTW, the roller mechanism is similar to a dice in that it has 6 different outcomes but it is like a hexagonal cyclinder - much like the HB pencils we've used in our childhood days (and still!). I often scraped the paint off one of these pencils and wrote various actions on it and used it for playing 'pencil cricket' when I was supposed to be studying! Ahh, the good ole days!

Guys - I've had no luck tracking down a 6-sided roller dice like the one mentioned in my post above, so thought I'd bring it up again - just in case someone had seen it somewhere ...... I'd be just as happy with an 8-sided roller dice!!

Anyone? Anyone?

Maybe you can find someone selling teetotums. I'm not sure if that's the usual word to name the object I'm talking about, but in spanish it's called "perinola", and teetotum is all my spanish-english dictionary has to offer.

I remeber seeing teetotums offered in some game parts selling site, but failed to find where exactly.

In the worst case, you can saw both sides of the teetotum and get the kind of piece you're looking for.

Thinking about it, maybe you can make your own rolling dice out of an hexagonal rod. It's going to be cheaper and easier to find, probably.

Here you can find what I mean. It shouldn't be hard to find plastic, wood or metal hexagonal rods.

Then you just need someone to print (silk scren) or engrave the sides and cut the rod in pieces after that. It shouldn't be to hard to find someone to do that either.

Good luck.

Many thanks guys!

It looks like another name for this type of dice is the "rolling log dice". See http://members.aol.com/dicetalk/polymor2.htm

I could buy a pair from eBay (see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6160135164 , but I'm sure I can get them cheaper than that!!

So if anyone sees them - please let me know!!

Thanks again ..... TwoBob

Not sure if this will help, but check out

crystalcaste

they have some roller style dice (though not exactly like the picture you showed). They have a d4 through a d20. I dont remember where I saw it, but I thought they also made items like a d5 and d7..... but the site does not seem to have them now. Hmmmm maybe it was another company.
