Wood vs. Plastic vs. Metal

I have a few questions about the advantages and disadvantages of using various different type of materials for the production of game pieces. I am curious about peoples experience with wood, metal and or plastic.

I'm interested in price comparisons, customizability, and whatever else you can think of.

One specific question I can think of: Is it generally cheaper to get custom wood bits made rather than plastic or metal? I would think so, but I'm guessing that wood pieces are limited to basic geometric shapes since they can't be molded the way that plastic or wood can.

Wood vs. Plastic vs. Metal

Hello all, I havent been on BGDF is a long time, I thought I would spend an hour so answering questions.

As to your question, if you want Ten, wood is cheaper, if you want hundreds to tens of thousands pewter is cheaper than plastic for custom pieces. If you want hundreds of thousands injection molding is cheapest of all. peweter is cheaper than plastic due to time it takes to mold thermoset plastic, the acidic qualites of the plastic, and the over all cost including scrap.
