Besides of nature and rocks. What else could serve as debris in a game, that plays in an environment where no man has gone before?

Um...

Aside from nature? in a previously uninhabited area? I think that nature is a great source of inspiration for all kinds of obstacles!

The outdoors hosts rivers and puddles, small cliffs and mesas, vegetation, and a host of other possible obstacles. However, if you're wanting something outside the ordinary, you might consider strange crystalline growths, debris from crashed space vessels, quicksand, vine trellises, carnivorous plants, and a host of other abominations for starters...

Grim... but possible

The dead bodies of the predecessors that came before you! Haha! ROFLMAO

Just picture a TORNADO that wipes through a neighborhood...

Then you could have ALL KINDS of debris: . You could have all kinds of broken stuff: furniture, televisions, cars, roofs or parts of homes, etc.

That could give your game a real INJECTION!

Sort of a Post-Apocalyptic world like Fallout! There could be PLENTY of Junk lying all around. Sometimes it doesn't even need to make any sense...

The game is going to have

The game is going to have some hopping from planet to planet.
That is why I put the "where no man has gone before" comment in the first post.

Each planet has it's own colour. But all environments are going to be somewhat alike.

And with nature, I meant only the "tree's" and "plants".
Besides of that, hills are an option. But hard to add, since they require a deformed shape of the area.
"nature" and rocks are simply putting in pictures.

Rivers are nice, but they are not something to hide behind.
Let's say, I am looking for stuff to hide behind.

Perhaps some weather:
Mist/Fog?

An idea:

Well, I recommend watching some sci-fi shows to generate some ideas for that. Stargate is a good choice :) Alien statues, ancient relics, debris, meteoroid impacts, and a host of other ideas could come to you.

But who says that it has to be already there? You could allow the infantry units to "dig in", boosting their defense if they're willing to sit in one spot. Or allow the units to create their own cover (like the portable one-way shields in Halo 3)

I have walls and the dig in

I have walls and the dig in option ;).
Also a dig out option.
For infantry, but also for tanks (stationary artillery and "tick tanks")

My major problem is still the picture visioned from top. I need 3 additional levels.

"Tree's" and giant Rocks are level 2 and 3.
Hills where level 1. But they are soooo hard to implement on a picture if you have to mix with a grass like area or, let's say, a road like area. Sand dunes and Water however are suprizing nog a problem.

Perhaps you can suggest me something that would fit on hard ground that is leveled, not rocky like big spire rocks.

That "growing" mineral thing might be it though. But would every planet have such a thing?

Maybe I am overcomplicating things.

***

Main reason for the search.

I have full fledged mountain regions, a lot of rocks.
full fledged forests, a lot of tree's.
But a full fledged hill region, well, every basic terrain with hills would follow this addition. So, something that looks different. Or simply not allowing a full fledged hill region?

I just had to...

How about a "Dead Cow"! ROFLMAO

Very *meaty* and could provide maybe level 1... Same goes for a Jalopy makes for a good level 1 obstacle.

If I had to choose, I'd go with the "Dead Cow"! :D

Maybe you could *alter* the theme a little bit and instead of UNEXPLORED, you go to DYING or DEAD planets where the inhabitants were wiped out due to natural disasters... Like floods, volcano eruptions, hurricanes, etc.

I just think going in that direction opens up a WORLD of possibilities.

What your goal is finding survivors and saving them (maybe). Or you can go in a completely other direction: Zombies!!! Okay no zombies. Just got me going on the whole natural disaster theme!

Sorry! ;)

Update: Maybe you (the players) can be the CREATORS of Worlds all around the known universe. Some of these worlds have nearly been destroyed because of natural disasters. In these worlds, few inhabitants have managed to survive...

Something along those lines... To me sounds like an interesting backstory. Just some ideas! :)

I get it now. Debris is the

I get it now.

Debris is the wrong word.

It should have been environment.

It would have been nice that there wasn't an childlike answer to my question. But rather a comment of, "are you using the right words?"

O well.
