Monster Keep — Race Play Styles, Yes or No?

Okay so this will be a very simple question to answer, either Yes or No...

Do you think that each of the nine (9) Races in Monster Keep (MK) should have their own "Play Style"???

This is obviously in relation to the Special Abilities available on each of the cards which may affect the outcome of a "skirmish", act as bonuses or penalties, etc.

I'm a bit torn by this ... Because there are NINE (9) Races ... And I don't think I can come up with NINE (9) different "Play Styles"...

Right now that is my BIGGEST impediment towards going in that direction.

I need to reflect upon it some more... But I'd like to know what the OTHER Game Designers feel would be the best approach???

Comments/Feedback/Questions/Concerns feel free to reply.

Cheers!

"Play Style" Tabular Information
Race Circle Play Style
Humans Order Bonus Morale
High Elves Life Bonus Magic
Dwarves Storm Bonus Power
Gnomes Technology Bonus Skill
Wood Elves Nature No bonus or Penalty
Dark Elves Chaos Penalty Skill
Giants Frost Penalty Power
Orcs Fire Penalty Magic
Undead Death Penalty Morale

This is what I have and considering that each Race has about fifteen (15) cards... It's not as "impossible" as I might have thought.

I like variety and different

I like variety and different playing options when I play a game usually, so i would say "Yes", give each race a playing style. It will be more fun to play with different races then since each would be a bit different. Also, regarding the wood elves- not sure yet. Don't know much about the game. Perhaps they could have both a random bonus and a random penalty? Or maybe they have no bonus or penalty, maybe they are a neutral race? Granted, I would typically not think these ideas are ideal, just going with what I have to work with right now. And either way, humans are typically the neutral race in most games.

Thanks,

-Austin

What's the point of having 9

What's the point of having 9 races unless they're at least somewhat distinct?

As for the wood elves, well, I don't really know much about the game details, but typically systems have a "neutral" race, which is usually "human".. so that seems fine to me.

Yes

Yes, they should be distinct. However, I do think you should revisit your ideas regarding Morale Points, skirmishes, and player elimination (detailed in another thread of yours).

True Neutral Race with no bonus or penalty

I agree... Well ASIDE from the "cards" being different (and that includes a lot like all of the ART being different, the various stats per card, the special ability on a per card-basis, etc.) ... I too wanted different settings to offer up different bonuses or penalties.

I have made the "Wood Elves" the "Neutral" race in that their Nexus will not offer any bonus or penalty (True Neutral). I'm happy with that idea spawned by both @Jason and @Austin. It works TBH.
