Hi all,

Maybe you have some ideas for naming this ability:

What the ability does is allows you to attack a unit that is BEHIND another unit... So it's almost like *bypassing* or going through one unit to attack the other.

I have no clue what to name this ability?!

Anyone have any ideas???

Thank you.

Kinda depends on the genre.

Kinda depends on the genre. With modrn weapons there is the corner shot that might applicable, heavier weapons and you have a guided shot. With a bow, it'd be a high arc or lofted. Handheld weapons might be a spear or polearm, but lance might be even better. You could use ricochet to imply bouncing off a surface to hit bhind. High tech, I'd maybe go with a coalescing shot, implyng a diffuse energy that comes together at a further point. Could also toy around with aiming or sniper with the idea that the unit behind is partially exposed. Tunneling is another way. Magic brings in more with things like a targetted teleport, psychic assault, or such.

Thanks corsaire

I think I will use the keyword "Tunneling"... To me, it could be either Magical or Physical (like a spell or a lance).

So my vote is for that one (unless someone has a better idea...)

Spell or Lance? Pierce. I

Spell or Lance? Pierce. But that is really only if you intend on hitting both units.

I think spell pierce is pretty common in games with magic resistance. And obviously the whole idea of a lance is to reach out and pierce the opponents armor. Bonus points if you can stick more than one guy on a single lance? :)

Also many games where arrows, projectiles, and other attacks have a chance to pierce their targets hitting the ones behind them.

If you are more about going around the guy in front, then that is a bit harder.

An aircraft might penetrate some airspace, going around defenses en route to the target.

A spell could teleport to the rear target.

A projectile could arch over the front line.

A lance... would pierce, not go around(unless you throw it?). Now the knight, riding a horse carrying the lance, would flank the front line to hit the weak rear.

Lob? The first thing I

Lob? The first thing I thought of was throwing a grenade, stone or other projectile over an obstacle

Mole Men? o.O

Tunneling seems like a power for Mole Men. I tunneled under your troops and got them in the behind!

Since you mentioned magic but still no genre, I'm guessing this is a fantasy game you're asking about. You could just call it "Reach." This applies to just about everything. It could be the man has long arms, weapons, his magic can reach around men to get that guy behind. It doesn't matter how they reach him, the power just specifies that he can. Then based on the unit/card/etc, that has this power, the user will fill in the details with his imagination.

I was thinking more towards a unit ability versus a general ability. I like Kroz's suggestion for "reach" for a general ability.

How about "Curve"? It applies to physical weapons and projected spells.

If you are talking about

If you are talking about lances and spears, how about

"Reach"

maybe...?

I think of insubstantial words like ethereal. So Ethereal Stike/Attack?
Also if its a skill based move it could be "Intentional Attack", as in I missed the guy in front, but hit his mate behind.... totally meant to do that. :P

Okay so I'll use...

"Reach". It is for a Fantasy game and the purpose of the ability is to be used with various units (magical or not).

Yeah, knowing the genre helps. We were getting space/fantasy/WWII terms thrown around here. Even then, reach is doable for just about all of them but really is best for fantasy game abilities me thinks.

+1 for "reach"

I would just like to add another vote for using "reach." Of the suggestions posted, it seems to be the easiest concept to apply to any situation. Also, the concept of "reach" is easily transmitted to players, i.e. most players will intuitively understand what a unit/card with reach does even without having to reference the rules.
