Hello, I have just posted Solar Empire game rules for everyone to look at for the first time, I need some input on the design and format for the game. Currently, the game is being playtested, and I plan to release it soon on Kickstarter. Any input on the rules is welcome, and I appreciate any interest you may have in Solar Empire and helping me improve the presentation. These rules have been posted on google docs and a link is below, if you would like to get regular information, join my blog: solarempireccg.wordpress.com/

nice work

I like that the rules are only 2 pages long :)

Can you share some event cards? I'm curious to see how they affect gameplay.

Can ships move diagonally, the rules say any direction so I'm assuming they can.

Once ships form an Armada can they split up later?

In the combat section it says "the losing ship is either discarded." The word "either" makes it sound like there are 2 options, but I only see one.

"captial ships must target enemy captial ships until their eliminated". I'm thinking "Their" should be they're.

Rules Clarifications

You'll need to make the following points clearer...

1) Ships are played face-down. How can other players confirm that the correct energy cost was paid? (I suggest printing the energy cost on the back of the ship card.)

2) What happens when an attacking ship's attack value is equal to a defending ship's defence value?

3) Can all the ships in an armada be moved simultaneously?

4) Some examples describing armada combat would be helpful.

Sounds cool. The rules will deffinately get a step up when you can add in some visual examples. How much playtesting have you done so far? Just based off reading the rules I wonder if the game will strongly favor the player who gets an early lead. Allow him to stack ships into a giant armada and go around crushing the other player's ships before he has enough time to build up any kind of counter attack.

Drop some updates on how the playtesting works out.

I agree that some examples of play are really going to be of help here so players can visualize the game. You may also want to give an example of an Effect card in play or attached to a ship.

The Capital ships and Escort ships section at the end threw me for a loop because it came after the Armada combat section. You may want to move this section up higher, near your ship combat section, or clarify that it only affects Armada combat.
