Hey all!

Ever think about how your preferences in board games influence your designs? It's important to understand what you like so you can design something you like. In this post I outline what I consider my "Pillars of Design" and why I think they're important. You can check it out here:

I read your blog post. Its

I read your blog post. Its interesting to see other peoples perspectives. I can't say I agree with you particular 4 pillars, but games are such a broad genre that there is room for everyone.

For example, I love an immersive game. To me, games are about story. As such, I end up designing games that have a large story element. There is usually some sort of a plot (albeit with wiggle room to allow for repalyability). I also vastly prefer co-op games too.

But it was a good post! All in all, very useful as a reminder that there are many different kinds of gamers out there.

Good read. Definitely made me think that creating my own pillars could help me streamline my design process.
I think I'm gonna print out OveRealm later tonight, sounds fun!

Wait wait wait! I've been spending the whole week updating and streamlining OverRealm! I'll post it on the site this weekend. It'll be much better, I promise!

Also, thanks for checking out the site guys!

Okay, all is updated!

Okay, all is updated! I hope you enjoy it.

It's been a lot of fun watching OverRealm come together over the past six months since I started it. I continue to be amazed how it immediately improves the more I streamline it. Now I mostly solo the game for balance tweaks and feel of gameplay. Finding the right balance for minions–durability, frequency of damage effects, and synergy–has been the focus of my attention at this point. I'm new to game balance and it has its own learning curve, that's for sure.
