What would you use as an ICON???

Well a week ago, I started learning how to PLAY "Pokemon" TCG. I know a store that is not so far away which sells 75 Cards Bundles for $14.99. That comes out to about $0.20 and costs me $0.00 in shipping.

As I learned more about the game, reading the rules and playing ONLINE too... I gained more experience and am still a "newbie" but I'm much more familiar with the game than a week ago!

So back to my question:

Quote:
I would like to know how YOU would represent the ICON for "Paralysis"???

I don't want a "wheelchair" or "handicapped person" as I find this is a form of discrimination.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

Hmm

Might still be offensive...
A nerve, perhaps with a cross on it or something.

Another option is a balchain.

ducktape?

A person bound with rope and ducktape could represent not being able to perform actions. Or stars floating around the head representing being stuned, like after a goblin hits you upside the head. My first thought was actually blue lightning wrapped around the person like they got zapped. Often happens to gnomes when their machine malfunctions, lol.

Wow ... Those are some real good suggestions!

Here's what I ultimately "settled on":

Paralyzed

It "FEELS" like someone being "disabled" or "paralyzed" TBH... It'll do for the purposes that I need it. It's for "Pokemon TCG"... Some statuses have tokens, others do not...

So I figured: "Why not UNIFY things and make a token for each status!"

I think it looks pretty decent. Mind you, some of your suggestions would also be cool too!

Cheers.

Doing it for Family...

My Cousin's son just turned 5-Years of age and his brother is going to be 3-Years in December. I'm planning to surprise both of them with their OWN "Custom" Pokemon Decks... Each tailored for them in a very unique fashion.

How??? Well aside from these CUSTOM Status Tokens, I also bought custom D20s as Damage Counters (5x each), I also have Dragon Coins (for coin tosses), in addition I got material pouches corresponding to the color of their decks (Primary color) and to add to this (Hopefully) a matching Dragon's Shield Box for their Decks.

Something real neat for Christmas! But for the youngest, I am going to give him DVDs of the first 26 episodes of Pokemon! Plus a deck of cards made with SpongeBob for his birthday in December... Which was made specifically for him, because I gave him two (2) DVDs of SpongeBob... To watch and share with his older brother. Now he'll own the Pokemon DVDs and can also share with his older brother... I don't want him to feel like his older brother gets all the best merch ... And he only gets seconds. I actually am trying to TAILOR each child's gifts to be meaningful to them!

I initially was going to make ONE (1) Pokemon Trainer Deck ... But I decided that even if his brother is YOUNGER ... He would no doubt be LEFT-OUT if I did not make him HIS OWN deck too...

So ... Making sure to include everyone this Christmas with "nice" gifts...

ah yes,

making a custom made game or something that adds to a game they like is fun to do.

I hope they like it Kristopher.

Perhaps you can get some hints of what they like to see.
I always did this with some buddies of mine in the past too.

Actually it's a two-pronged effort...

See by giving the DVDs to the younger son... It balances out all the comic books and graphic novels I have been giving his older brother.

So he'll get the Pokeomon Indigo League (Vol. 1 to 26) DVDs as a gift they BOTH can watch together. Even though the DVDs "belong" to the younger son... I'm going to give them BOTH Pokemon Trainer Decks ... That I am painstakingly putting them together myself.

Pokemon compared to Magic is relatively inexpensive. Sure I hope to TRADE some cards (if the store accepts...) and see what I can get in return. We'll have to wait and see. I'm also building up a Deck for myself... Just for FUN! And as a collectible (before the pool of available cards disappears)!

You can PLAY ONLINE FREE. But it's kind of a GRIND to level up and such.

I'd rather build a few decks and let the kids play them when they are a bit OLDER (9 and 7-Years of age)... Would be more fair at that time. The Pokemon Status Tokens (via The Game Crafter) are CUSTOM and the Dragon Coins (via a Kickstarter) are unique also. The custom D20s are from Chessex and color-coordinated with each deck too: Purple, Blue and Green (my own)!

For now, it's a question of becoming more familiar with Pokemon the Cartoon Series ... And IF they like that... They might also LIKE the TCG as they get a bit older.

I don't mind spending a few dollars to make some interesting gifts. I mean it's not Kwanzaa where it is expected to give homemade gifts... But at the same time, Christmas is about cool memories and "neat" gifts too!

Like you say, we'll hope the kids like their Christmas presents! Hehehe...

Also ...

My "themed" deck on Pokemon Online sucks cr@p! I don't know how they could give me such a lousy deck. I tried it ... And of course, I lost the match! I really dislike when you are NEW to a game and they give you "junk" (how do I qualify this??? -- The FIRST match I played with it I LOST ... by a LOT!)

I think my "extended" Deck that I built was STRONGER than my Purple Themed Deck.

However I must say I picked-up a NICE "Pikachu" in one of the FREE Booster Packs that I obtained. Was cool to get the little mouse (even if it was a common card)...

Anyhow... We'll see how much it costs me to build all these three (3) Decks!

Cheers.

Not to forget...

Some Statuses don't have a "Token". Why? I don't know... TBH! But they don't and I find it HARD to keep all of the different statuses (eg. what each one means and does) straight in my mind without needing to go to the rulebook.

So on MY TOKENS, the backside says "How to USE this token!"

In the event that you've forgotten how a STATUS works, just FLIP the token and voila! I also learned that you ONLY need "5 Tokens"... Because when you BENCH a Pokemon, the statuses on it are automatically removed.

This means that ONLY the five (5) Status may be present on the ATTACKING Pokemon ONLY! That reduced my order by $2.00 and I rushed the order for $7.00. So basically it cost me $5.00 more to make the tokens URGENT and be shipped by August 29...

Learning more as I go along... And managing to get things done quicker than waiting for 1+ Month with the regular orders!

Pokemon

If Pokemon is anything like when I played it, the starter decks where you have a ton of creatures and level them up .. that's ok to play against other decks that do that same strategy, but the more competitive game is all about trainers and items, and barely about the Pokemon. It was find your two or three favorite Pokemon and build around those. EX and GX and Whatever-X were nearly mandatory and .. at some point it said well that was fun, and put it all in a tin on the shelf. I think when a rotation happened and half my cards were no longer "legal" to play.
It's still there if I want to pull it off the shelf to play an out-of-date deck, I guess.

Paralysis always have

Paralysis always have lightning or electricity involved since the nerves does not work anymore.

Maybe use that crippled human icon but use a lightning symbol instead of a heat symbol.
