Card game - some help

Hi, this is my first post in here (and also English is not my native language) & my first try on creating a game (card game).

The goal is to be a some-what fast game, simple rules but still interesting enough for casual (or non ) gamers.

Ok, so here's what I have so far.

I have a number of cards in a deck, each card has some random positioned dots on the both margins + a few special advantages once the card is played + a value of the card is printed (between 1-4 for example) for final scoring.

The goal is that a player can arrange a number of cards in a row (in front of him), but the each card has to match the previous dots, sort of connected. The cards can be rotated upside-down as well (this will keep a lower number of cards in the deck as well).

A player gets 5 cards in his hand from a common deck. He can place a card down in front of him by paying with the rest of the cards from his hand.
e.g: a card played in front worth 3 points, he must give 3 cards from his hand to the discard pile. ( he can place a new card in front of him just once in his turn).

Other things he can do is to replace older played cards with new ones if the dots match (could have a better value for example which will give him a final better score), play sabotage cards (lower a card's value).

About the cards advantages, a card played can give a bigger hand size, or have a lower "price" to but but worth more at the end.... stuff like that.

Some solo testing revealed that the game is quite blend and it's not much interaction between players (maybe cards should have some effects) and it's a bit too much luck involved (if a player doesn't have a card to match the dot's on the last card he pretty much looses a round).

Could anyone have an idea how to make it a bit more interesting than, take card play card - game over? :)

Thanks!

Hmm interesting,

Are cards being placed just in front of the player and no one else? If cards are being used on the other players as you say values of the points, then you should have players but high number cards on the players who are going for a low value score. Its like blocking, the player (s) who are striving for low or high better value points can switch these numbers out per to your rules. Reminds me of the game mechanic in the card game called 9 holes? Its a golf card game. Players put 8 cards in front of them face down. Then 1 by 1 players pick a card to replace a card in front of them.

No, each player builds it's

No, each player builds it's on chain of cards and try to score as much points as possible with the cards they get in their hand.

Nevermind. Heheh. I made a rookie mistake.

Hmm. Don't listen to me. I don't know what I'm doing. Hahahha. Oh well. Such a simple question for help and I can't add advice. SORRY. SLAPS FOREHEAD.

Is this a chain or a stack?

Is this a chain or a stack? (Are all the cards directly on top of one another?

If not, it sounds a bit like bananagrams with shapes instead of words. I'm not sure how you would fail to match a card though... maybe if the stars had colors as well as arrangements?

Still need player interaction... always bugged me that bananagrams didn't have it
