Hello bgdf people!!

I was looking to get some input on a board game I am in the process of designing...

But before I give you the game idea let me explain why and how I came up with the game idea.

Im an army veteran and living in Germany with my wife and our 5 children. My kids were born in Germany and while both my wife and I are American our children speak mostly german. Our 2 oldest speak good English but they could still learn alot of words and grammar. Our 2 youngest also speak a good deal of English but can still learn alot also.

Anyway all kids in germany take English classes and I spend alot of time with my kids learning vocabulary. Im a big believer in flash cards so I made a bunch and over time flash cards turned into "Germish" which is the game im designing.

Germish is a mixed of German and English and is an educational game teaching kids English but can also be used for english speaking kids to learn german.

Germish is a turn based card game with 120 cards (but more cards can be added with expansion packs) there are 100 word cards with the german word on the front (which is the side that the player sees) and the English word on the back. There are 20 "Luck" cards that have doffrent things such as a player may be giving extra cards, give cards to other players, take cards from other players, etc.

The cards are mixed together and 10 cards are delt to up to 4 players. The left over cards are put in the middle of the board game. Now each player takes there top 6 cards (german Side up) and places them infront of them spead out. The other 4 are put in smaller decks next to the 6 cards.

For their turn player rolls a six sided dice and picks the card corresponding to the dice. If player rolls a 3 then they pick the 3rd card. Player then reads the german word and says the word in english. When the player is correct they place the card in the discard pile and replaces it with a card from their small deck. When they are wrong they leave the card there and must take a card from the big deck and put it with their other cards in their small deck.

The player who gets rid of their cards first wins.

I took some index cards and made some simple cards and a game board from a poster board a week ago. For the past week my kids have been playing the game instead of the wii at night.

My plan would be to make a few prototypes with Photoshop and my printer, have my kids take them to school and see if the English teacher's or children's parents have interest in buying the game.

I think this is a good idea as it gets my kids learning new words and having fun.

A bonus ia that I plan to do expansion packs for different age groups .. such as maybe simple words for smaller kids... or topics like holiday words, or maybe a pack including all the things u find in a normal house and sell them on the games website... i have ideas to do it in Spanish also

Please give me your opinion. ..

I like the simplicity of the concept and the ability to expand the game. I also like the multi-language support and the educational focus. The luck cards add a fun element.

Depending on the age of the kids, I'd like to see more complexity to the task beyond memorizing words. Maybe this could be in the luck cards. For example, use the word in a sentence or conjugate the verb.
