So this is my first time posting on this website. I found you guys because of this website called The Game Crafter. Anyone heard about it? Its a pretty rad site.

Well anyway, I was thinking about an idea for a card centric game based on the cliches and ideaology of Heavy Metal.

The game would involve two players trying to form THE MOST BRUTAL BAND ON THE PLANET, Managing money, Trying to sway control of the Crowd, Musician Management, etc.

The way I invisioned the game is thus:

There would be 2 Decks of cards that come with the game.

The first deck would contain an array of Musicians (satirical caricatures of some popular and some obscure musicians), a collection of musical equipment (to further modify the stats of the musicians you put into play), and songwriting techniques used in music (such things as "Memorable Chorus", or "Twin Guitar Solos", or "Crunchy Riff"). All these things can be bought with the money that you start out with.

The second deck would contain all the things that the crowd might be expecting from the bands that play. They would have a certain attribute that all the musicians have, lets say for example "Speed 6", which means that the total speed of your band would have to equal or exceed 6. If it exceeds, then you gain some amount of money and sway some of the crowd to your band.

Thats about all I have as far as the initial ideas go. So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas that might be helpful?

well whatever I suppose

I guess its hard to get people to comment on new game ideas on this site, but I thought that was what this site was for.

I'll be occasionally coming back here but I don't expect to be posting again.

I wasn't trying to spam the forum with off topic rants, but I thought that the name I gave my topic was pretty accurate.

I was like . . .

"Hmm, I'm a musician and a gamer, I can't believe I didn't at least say SOMETHING about this idea."

Posting on Thanksgiving, at least for me--and probably many others in the States-- definitely doomed that post to not get read right away.

Sorry (and I'm sure if you browse around a little, you'll see that lots of conversation gets started about many ideas, and especially when the original posters are very involved!)

What happens when the crowd needs you to go to 11?

:P

fun lingo

I think it sounds like a fun theme for a game, especially all the lingo for heavy metal music like the different guitar moves. You might want to throw in make-up and theatrics and pyrotechnics and costumes that some of the bands used to put on a good show. Those could be fun modifiers that a band could buy.

Being the coolest band is a good goal...

You could elaborate on the "what the crowd wants" aspect by thinking of it in terms of different venues. For example, one card could say that the band is playing for christian youth at a church and another card could be for a different venue like a seedy bar on skidrow. So the structure of the game is along the lines of bands on tour... they go to different shows on a tour...

just some suggestions

Excellence

Ha ha I knew I could Coax a reaction out of you guys, with just a little nudge.

You know I hadn't even thought about that whole Venue aspect. That might be fun to incorporate into the game. Maybe that could be even a seperate deck of cards that modifies the crowd deck.

As far as costumes or face painting or special effects, I think thats a really bad ass Idea. It would give me so much more stuff to play with as far as modifiers go.

I'm having trouble coming up with cartoons for some of the musicians I had in mind. What different styles of Minimalistic cartoons are there? I suppose I could look this up myself, but what immediately comes to mind is south park. Maybe I could draw something along those lines?

Inkscape lets you import jpg

Inkscape lets you import jpg images and then you can trace over them with the pen tool to get a line drawing, and then delete the image. This lets you make cartoons without too much creative-skill, if you are artistically challenged. Its free, too. It also has quick shape tools if you are going for the southpark look.

Are you planning on using real people, or modelling game characters off of them?

Real people.. sorta

I'm thinking about making Caricatures of the real musicians, but changing a letter or two in their name so that their name is abit funnier. For Example:

Kerry King from Slayer becomes Kerry Bling
Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom becomes Alexi Gayhoe
Kirk Hammet from Metallica becomes Kirk Hamslice

And hopefully this way I won't incur the wrath of anyone. Hahah =)

Well, you might still incur

Sounds fun. Looking forward to seeing this develop!
