I haven't been around on the Board Game Designers Forum's in a while because I've kind of been tied up with other things in my life. I haven't been able to work on Board Games in a while, and it's been a little disappointing.

I have decided to try to bring back my board game ways though, and I thought there was no better way than to bring into the community an idea.

I want to create a world, but I don't want to do it alone. I am hoping to build a community in which we build a world together. If you would like to know more about my plans, or would like to participate check out this link:

(Sorry for posting this as a blog and forum post)

Essentially that is what we

Essentially that is what we are trying to do.

We are trying to create the back story and world so that we can develop stories in the world.

A friend of mine described it as, "multiple-GM DnD" where we all create the world, and then all write the story.

Are my directions kind of confusing then? Should I change them somehow?

I'm still looking for some

I'm still looking for some more people who would be interesting in helping us. If you know of anybody who would be interested please feel free to let them know.

It’s not so much the instructions on how to proceed that were unclear but instead the intent of creating it in the first place.

Collaboration can be very productive getting the creative juices flowing from seeing how other approach a problem or in this case a story and having a bunch of games in the same world would be quite cool too.

The down side is ownership. Without a formal agreement from all parties involved I can’t sell my game using the setting created by others. If by chance I create something really good that is exactly what I would want to do.

That does pose an interesting

That does pose an interesting problem. I wasn't sure about the copyright agreement of the ideas that would be created.

So what you're saying is that if I were to write something using another persons idea that they submitted to this world-building idea they could potentially claim the idea as their own and claim it as their own, even though they submitted the idea by their own free-will?

Would there be a way in which I could have people come to some sort of understanding or agreement that people would agree to by posting their comments?

Two Questions...

The first question: How do I register to your website so I can post ideas (without being Anonymous)?
The second question: The three ideas that are there all seem to build off each other. Is this what you are looking for? our ideas support the ones that are already in place? Or can they be different. I don't mind supporting, but I want to throw some time/space/dimensions in there before it would be impossible without being random. Thanks.

First: To register/log in go to blogger.com. If you have a gmail account you can log in with that, otherwise create one and log in.

Second: The ideas do not need to build off of each other. Each idea can be something of it's own. Once we have a decent amount of ideas I will pick around 10 of them to be the basis to our world. If they build off of each other that is great, but if not it doesn't matter.

In other words; I would LOVE if you put some unique ideas down. Feel free to write whatever you want. Who knows, maybe people enjoy your idea more and then build off of your idea and the world becomes something completely different.

Im not sure where you are but US copy right law says anything you write is covered under copyright as soon as you record it.

So unless there is an agreement with each participant to give up their right to the content they created i could not use content from others contributions without infringement. I think the key is having an agreement in place first. Maybe a copyleft sort of thing.

Copyright Agreement

In order to protect yourself, you need to write a disclaimer on your personal website, and some other legalese documentation.
Something that says "By writing down ideas for "x" (x being whatever you call this Intellectual Property you're collaborating on) on this forum/website, you agree to submit the idea before the group. If the collective group votes to use your idea, we will send a contract, that turns the idea over to the group, and because your idea was selected, you gain certain rights (such as two votes during Intellectual Property decisions.)"
Or something to that effect.

What that says is that anyone can submit ideas, but the ideas belong soley to the inventor until the group decides they want to use that idea. Then the group requests signed permission from the inventor. Then you can have lots of people on the tea, but the effective CEO (Tenelen) and those who came up with the ideas have two votes.

You should also establish how someone can be removed from the group. (In case a troll gets on.) And what happens if you sever ties with one of the inventors (Do they get a share in any games invented using their idea?)

Just make sure you are protected, and that the inventors of ideas are also protected.
You can go in just trusting everyone, but that can lead to someone abusing the group to farm ideas for themselves.

Those are my two cents, anyway.

So I have created this: http://tenfoxproductions.blogspot.com/2011/12/terms-and-conditions.html

Which will now be at the end of all the posts related to Khaterra.

I hope that will basically cover what needs to be covered.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

I'm hoping to get a few more ideas before the deadline ends.

The basic idea of a world of Chaos has also given me an idea for a story that I have been working with on my own. I am hitting a road-block with that so I am thinking about posting it on the blog as well to get some feedback.
