Hi,

I'm in the process of brainstorming around game ideas set in Namibia.

This is what I got so far:

  • late 18th century
  • different Orlam clans move into the area
  • (peaceful) encounters with the nomadic Nama tribes:
    --- trading with Nama tribes
    --- right to use waterholes
    --- grazing rights
    --- rights granted against an annual payment
  • five geographical areas:
    --- Central Plateau
    --- the Namib Desert
    --- the Great Escarpment
    --- the Bushveld
    --- the Kalahari Desert

Possibilities:

  • grow your clan
  • grow your land
  • trade with Nama tribes
  • place tents on tiles / locations

If anybody has any thematic / game mechanic ideas ?

Interesting

What about some kind of migration mechanic that has the tribes and/or the players moving from region to region as they follow herds or rain? This mechanic could drive both the reason for players to move or expand and could drive the availability of nearly everything else you mentioned (watering holes, grass, etc)
