Hi,

I want to submit a game I designed to a german contest. I am using images you must find a animal in. Now the game is not very complex and I am not shure if there is any game out there that uses the same mechanics. Does anyone of you know such a game with this kind of image ?

I'm not sure if there is anything like this, but I think I spent almost 10 minutes searching :)

In addition to numerous animals, I also found the broken throwing star and the enchanted machete!

Are these hand drawn images?

For what it's worth, I could see myself buying this to play with my nephews

Nope

Not to my knowledge. There the "EYE SPY" books, but they are nothing like this.
I see like 5 animals. Which one do you want me to find!? (I want to play the game now).

this sounds like somethng

this sounds like somethng that is easy enough to recreate yourself, even in say something as basic as paint, do you want a finished product or just a prove of concept

Pictureka?

The closest thing I can think of would be Pictureka.

I found a nice looking fox... And maybe a dove...

Anyhow, to make this a *viable* game, you would need to reproduce this type of artwork on cards. And say use a timer (hourglass) to give a certain amount of time to find the animal in question. Other notes, you could specify a NUMBER (at the top - for example) that would indicate how many animals are on the card. For each animal you find, you score 1 point. You could have like 60 cards and have room for the timer in the box.

The only problem I see with the game is RE-PLAYABILITY. Once you start to be familiar with the cards, the game looses some of its luster. Also it would be possible to CHEAT by studying the cards to find the animals when not playing the game... (So as to be better at the game when playing it...)

But the NICE thing about this *game* is that you can have ANY topic to search for... Which can lead to several editions of the game. Like an animal edition for your first edition...

The other possibility is to create a Syndicated game you would print in Newspapers.

This would be a great idea - you could have a new one each week.

They like puzzle games like Soduku and Word jumbles, etc.

Paper pay to license a copy of the game... Could be a nice way to make some extra pocket change and have a game that gets printed AROUND THE WORLD.

What's fantastic is that it can be in ANY language - it is language agnostic. And the game only need to be printed black on white paper...

I would really explore this as a game to be published in Newspapers... around the world! ;)

Thank you all

Hi,

thank you all for your help. Someone has posted the name of a game that is similar to my Idea (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/11853/zoom-in), but the game plays completly different. I will remake the first gameboard and have 2 further gameboards with my first game. There are only 10 days to go, so I know what I will do all weekend long....

When the game is finished I will put it online for BGDF.

thank you,

martin

Pictureka

Pictureka is the only "picture-detail-search-game" that comes to my mind too,
not knowing much about both games it´s hard to say how different they are.
Maybe you can get more opineons on BGG.

Maybe there is an rather unknown game that is quite simmilar, but maybe the contest jury - by the way, which contest are you talking about? - will not know this game too.
Give it a try! And if you get the feedback that it is not innovative/close to xyz, maybe this can even help you to give your game a new, different direction.

Yippee! I made it to the final 3

Hi,

my game "Schnappschuss Safari" "Snapshot Safari" has made it to the final 3 at the game designer contest from Spiele-Akademie.de and Spieltz.de . The final will be at the Spielmarkt Potsdam on april 26 and 27.

Who likes to see what I made, check the link. It is free to print. One main porblem was, that I wasn´t allowed to use playing cards. Have fun

You can vote for my game by adding a comment at the bottom of the site !!!! Thank you !

Congratulations

In your game the player has a clear task and it's fun with kids. But I think older kids want some tactical element involved. If tests will show that current rules work well, then go with those. (What if there are more than two kids wanting to play simultaneously?)

I had an idea of a crossword game, where clues could be in form of a scrambled picture. Your fine project reminded me of that unfinished work that was buried in a drawer because I was not able to shift it into a game, it was just a puzzle.

Good luck with the contest!

more than 2 players

Hi,

in every image there are 11 animals of one kind (makes 66 animals on a board). If one player has to find 4 and the ohter one 5 (adult player have to search one more) that makes 9 of 11 animals. If you would add a player 11 animals wouldn´t be enough. I would have to design a extra board for 3 player and 4 players. I could add a 3 player game on the 2nd side of every board, but for the contest the 2 player version must work.
