I found this in the archives.

http://archive.bgdf.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?topics_offset=1&forum...

Does anyone know if it was ever completed? If so, is it available? It sounds pretty useful for printing rules (and other things...).

Thanks.
Jim

well....

Well, I could throw this together pretty easily, what I need to know is, what would you guys want in it? I read the other thread, and I saw what was there, but if there is really an interest in this, then I will do it. If so gimme a list. :)

Awesome!
One thing I would want, a generic clock icon (just a circle with a long and short hand, maybe pointing at 3 O'clock) to represent time.

Here are some tings off the top of my head which might be useful. I'm imagining these all as tiny, black and white icons - is that the best way to think of it?

Clock faces (1-12)
D6 Die faces (1-6)
D8 die faces (1-8, or maybe just 7&8)
D10 Die faces (1-10, or just 9&10)
D12 die faces (1-2 or just 11&12)
D20 die faces (1-20 or just 12-20)
Generic meeple shape (see Tim's thread for shape)
Generic Cacassonne meeple shape
Generic pawn shape
Wooden Cube (small-8mm or 1cm relative size, not actual)
Wooden Cube (large- 2cm or 1" relative size, not actual)
Wooden Disc
Wooden Road
Agricola's Animeeples:
- Cow
- Boar
- Sheep
- Grain
- Carrot (Veggie)
Settlers resources:
- Wood
- Clay
- Sheep
- Wheat (covered above)
- Ore
Gold icon
Silver icon
Some attack/warfare symbol or icon
Some planet symbols or icons:
- Earth-looking planet (circle with blotches)
- Planet with Rings
- Planet with Moon (planet outline, solid moon)
Some Trade symbol or icon
Some Research symbol or icon
Some Radar/sonar type symbol or icon
Some money/dollar icon - like a rectangle with a $ in the middle [ $ ]
Some "information" currency icon (like the money one, but with an i on it instead of $: [ i ])
Monopoly pieces:
- Thimble
- Battleship
- Dog
- Shoe
- Car
Sword
Axe
Bow
Arrow
Shield
Some kind of "Hit" or "wound" icon
Some kind of "Miss" icon
Heart (life) icon
- Small heart
- Big heart
Generic "Monster" icon
Treasure icon
Chest icon
Food
Elements:
- Earth
- Water
- Wind
- Fire
Rocket
UFO
Chess pieces:
- Pawn
- Rook
- Knight
- Bishop
- Queen
- King
Fleur de Lis
Cross
Magic: the Gathering icons (or knockoffs):
- Tree
- Sun
- Water drop
- Fireball
- Skull
Hourglass (near full)
Hourglass (near empty)
Elf icon
Dwarf icon
Human icon
Orc icon?
Goblin icon?
Gnome icon?
Cat icon?
Dog icon?
Train car icons:
- Engine
- Passenger car
- Coal car
- Flat car
- Caboose
- Rail line icon

That's all I can think of right now. I have no idea what it takes to make these things - if I could possibly help make them then I would be willing to try.

Cards!

I'm thinking of this font for instructions/rules. For this, I would also like to see:

fanned cards to represent a hand
a draw pile (face down)
a discard pile (face up)
other useful card images (like a hand with one card sticking up?)

And to go along with a recent discussion here (that made me originally search for a font:

number of players (1, 2, 2-4, 4+)
age range (5+, 8+ 10+ 12+)

I know some of these would be better as icons and not a font, but this is a wishlist...

Thank you.
Jim

BTW, this in addition to what sedjtroll asked for.

Excellent!

I like this! Awesome idea!

I second all the previous suggestions and would like to add the following:

Rifle icon
Soldier icon (perhaps could just be a meeple with a helmet?) :)
Laser gun icon
Space Ship icon (I'd like this to be different from the UFO icon)
Mining icon
Explosion icon (to indicate area of effect weapons)
Engine icon (was thinking more along the lines of a space ship type engine, but perhaps a different one could be created for terrestrial internal combustion engines?)

I also like the idea that these are simple, black and white icons. I have a question...since they're open source...is it okay to modify them a bit without getting into trouble? Could I change the color or the background to whatever suits me? Taking my meeple example above...would it be okay to add a helmet to the meeple icon to create a soldier icon?

Maybe it would be a good idea to make changes as you wish and then submit your changes so that any modifications (if approved) will be available to anybody? Hmmm...meh. I don't know about this...you don't want to garbage up a repository of images with every submission by every inventor. At the same time, I like the idea that the icon library can grow as more and more of us think of new ways to use them.

ok......

Ok, here is a pic of first board game design font. Sorry about the order of things, what is going to happen is that I think I am going to do these in sets. The die faces alone are enough for one font. I went down the lists of what people were asking for especially you, Seth. This is all I really wanted to put in one package. It can hold more but it just really gets cumbersome. So consider this one a test. I’ll put all of these in separate packages later, in a more organized format. I also included the BGDF logo in honor of my new friends here. (Board Admin… if this is not ok, let me know, and I will upload it without the logo). That being said let me review the list a little.

http://www.bgdf.com/node/3027

Clock faces are in the wingdings font that comes with windows. Look for it.
Meeples and pawns are done and will be in the next package.
Monopoly pieces ? Are you serious? Why ? ;-)
Gimme some ideas for what an attack icon might look like. (I put a lighting bolt in this one)
Not sure how to do the dwarf, human, goblin ect icons… hints?

Some take some thinking, it all has to be two color and all one vector object, so no overlaps.

Does anyone know where to get a pic of some “standard” time to play, age or number of players icons? Like magic_user is talking about. I cant seem to find any (but I’d lose my head if it wasn’t hooked on).

CloudBuster.. Yours look pretty easy, and yes, if there is something you like here, I can upload the vector drawing in just about any format. But remember, each character is a separate file, I currently have about 80 complete. And yes, these are my creation, and you can modify them in any way you want. -see my tongue in cheek license agreement (no lawyer here, I just write a lot of rules) :-)

And finally, is there any way to upload this to BGDF as a zip file? Otherwise, it will take me some time to come up with some other way.

Nice!

I love the font, and was happily surprised to see the hexes in there. I hope you will be making more.

Have you given any thought to also releasing the images as an SVG clipart collection?

Keep up the great work!
And THANK YOU.

Nice work, Sarge.

I would suppose all the conflict-related icons would go in one font.
* I would have separate icons to denote attack and defend, though of course they could be used in a variety of ways. I always think in terms of fantasy, so not sure what to use for modern/sci-fi:
** Offense: a clenched fist; crossed swords/blades/spears; a pistol or other firearm; an explosion or blast icon; a bow with arrow drawn; a missile arcing in flight.
** Defense: a shield; a wall; a tower (like a chess rook); a silhouette of a bulletproof vest; an arrow pointing at a solid vertical line, or deflecting off a solid line (as a ricochet); a medieval helmet; a modern helmet; a satellite looking thing, maybe with a couple waves/rings emanating from it.
* For an actual attack, perhaps a single sword, titled, with an arrow pointing away from it -- sort of showing the sword is being moved in that direction. Similarly for a pistol with a bullet/arrow/line coming out the barrel.

* Maybe a little sack with the $ on it, to indicate money.
* For that matter, just a little sack -- could be used for a variety of stuff.

* Generic habitation icons such as: a single hut, a single house, 2 huts/houses to represent a town, perhaps the top of houses peeking over a wall to show a walled town, a medieval city, a modern city, etc. Campaign Cartographer has icons for this kind of stuff, but that's copyrighted so I won't post any.

Really great work, Sarge!

Thanks!

I was going to give you some of the ideas you asked for, but Sidd did a really good job already! When can we see the next batch? :)

Very quick erply since I lost

Very quick erply since I lost my post

I have the MTG font from the old video game.

Interesting link I found yesterday about the 30 must have dingbats

------

I am confused about free font and non-free font copyright.

I imagine the restriction is on distribution, not on usage. Else since microsoft has a copyright notice on their "Arial" font, if the restriction was on usage, it would mean that all documents produced with the arial font will have to pay royalties to microsoft which is absurd.

I support the idea of board

I support the idea of board game font at 100%. If you want to rip from other font, let me know, I could make a selection of fonts from my collection that has stuff from the list above.
