Hi people.

I've been thinking about how to produce cheap prototypes of football/soccer players. I need them to be distinctly two different team colours, as well as representing different player types. I have several ideas, but I don't have any knowledge of any print on demand services that would allow extremely low print runs. More over I am continuously getting new ideas, so if you have any I am also open to them!

I would really love it if the players were actually represented vertically, and not simply a cardboard counter lying flat on the surface.

1. Cardboard punch outs, then putting them on a stand. Would need customizable graphics and possibly sizes of the punch outs.

2. Meeples with stickers or customizable print directly on them.

3. Wooden discs with stickers. (Violates the vertical goal).

Any other ideas or advice on how to realize any of the suggested ones?

Cheap and fast...

I needed something similar a long time ago to demonstrate a concept. I ended up cutting out little pieces of cardboard and coloring them with a marker. Then I wrote the first letter of the position on the cardboard (in your case you might have G = Goalkeeper, S = Striker, etc). Although it was a cheap solution, it was very clear on the board which team and position every piece represented. I stuck the cardboard pieces to small coins with either hot glue or the sticky wall stuff you use to put up posters (I can't remember now).

If I had to do it again today, I would look into small stickers that could be printed on a home ink jet printer and attached to cardboard or playing cards before being cut to size. Avery makes a million different types of labels and probably has something in the size you need. In addition, Avery can provide a template in Word that will allow you to print directly to the labels.

Good luck with your design!
