The Next Step

Hey everyone, My name is Dave and this is my first time here at BGDF. I'm here because i have not a clue as to what i should be doing next with my prototype. It is the first game i have ever created and therefore it is my gem. It is a abstract strategy game which I call LEDGE. I don't know how much further i should go with details right now so i will leave it at that. However, what I am looking for is the next step, which brings me here. I have spent the last 8 months play testing with some of my closest friends and have gotten some amazing feedback. Right now I'm in the process of finding people that i don't know to play it next so i can get there thoughts and opinions. So eventually, the dream would be to get this game to a shelf somewhere. Where do i go now? Is there publishers that deal specifically with this type of genre? If so does anyone know of any contacts? Should i just try to self publish it. I can produce the whole thing myself, however i have no idea how i would get it anywhere other than my local small town stores. I could go on, but i think you get the drift. Anyone have any insight on this type of situation, it would be great fully appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Advice from someone in a similar track

Hey Dave,

I think one of the things that has been drilled into my head is play test, play test, play test. I think there are several options for you in the end. However, gathering feedback regarding your game and also getting as many eyeballs on it helps for when you hit the publishing phase. Take the time to get a BGG entry for it, and begin to record plays and feedback there. It will help when communicating with publishers or if you self publish, to future customers. I am sure someone can shed more light on the abstract genre. Good luck!

Cheers,
Eric

There are some cracking

There are some cracking articles on your exact question DaverD. Just scour the web a little and you will find infinitely helpful resources around. What I would say is a broad piece of advice is that there is no real need for shrouded secrecy at such an early level. If people were keen to "steal" your idea in an instant. Yet with everyones "great ideas" people always find they have to put a lot of work in to ask publishers to create it for them. Most people on here will post the rules up, post the art up etc so we can see what they are doing in order to Help Them. We are not in the business of theft and are in theb usiness of helping out other board game creaters. In this exact vein:
