Photoshop Assistance? And Graphic Designer needed (possibly)

Hi All,

I'm slightly new here so I'll preface by saying I'm creating an LCG-like game called either Kings and Gods or Realms of Atrageon (up in the air on name). Either way it's a game played with all cards (ie magic or a game of thrones). I had a card designer mock up a quick photoshop for me so I could get my data on cards to begin playtesting and prototyping. So I've figured out a few things in photoshop but am really having trouble getting all the text to fit for names and card text. Also I figured out Data driven graphics and can get all my cards into jpgs but how do I get 9 jpgs per page to send to a printer?

Also, I could really use the help of a graphic designer who is good with photoshop so I can really get the prototypes looking good so I can start to think of selling to a publisher or kickstarting once playtesting is complete. I need iconography done as well, and the design of the card will be minimal as I want the artwork on the cards to really come through. I know this is the infamous pitch, but once I sell I'll be able to pay someone's fees. Let me know if anyone wants to help or if I need to move this to a different thread.

I will be happy to help. I've been designing publications in the past so I am proficient with Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc. You can send me a message with the details.

How far along are you in the process? It seems you need more than "photoshop skills", you need a designer to design the "interface" of the game, so to speak? At different stages of the playtest I would consider different aspects of the design - for example in my latest design Cartel (http://www.bgdf.com/node/14440), if you look at the cards I'm testing with, I've focussed on the placement of the information and how cards interact with each other (see how they stack) instead of pretty images or even "better icons".

Also, if you're wanting to self-publish, do you have all the parts worked out, like what your components are, costs, numbers, etc? Do you have a track record of other games you worked on?

So yeah I could assist with design, but I would also like to know which parts of the design you're looking for - is it artwork, is it card design, is it overall look & feel design, etc? :)

Hi tuism, Thanks for the

Hi tuism,

Thanks for the comments.

I'm not real far along, but I do have all my cards in excel and designed with some solo playtesting completed. It's been a pain without being able to print cards, and the old method of writing it down and sticking it in a sleeve is tedious.

I've got a pretty good feel of how I want the cards designed, I just lack the photoshop skills to really get what I want.

As for self publishing that's kind of the last option for me. I would prefer to sell to a publisher. If that doesn't work I will kickstart and go from there. As for components it's literally just rules (3 pages) 360-480 cards and 3 d12s per player. So I can't imagine it costing a fortune to make.

If you would like to help once we get the files print ready I could send them over to you for some playtesting? Any feedback is helpful. Let me know!

Hey Couple of pointers: Don't

Hey

Couple of pointers:

Don't use Photoshop for the text, rather pick Indesign to add that stuff. If you don't have it in your Suite you can ofcourse get the 30 day trial or ... another way. Don't forget to NOT go below 7pt/px in your text as 6 is fairly rough to read.

Also, try to make pdf's instead of jpg's cause using those is really not done in print. And don't forget to place them in CMYK if you didn't do that yet (it's an easy oversight). You can make mulitple card per pages in a pdf as well but as far as I know most printers have specialized software for that.

If there's anything else: holler

OMG that's a lot more than I thought @_@ My own projects are taking up quite a bit of my own time and I don't really have time to take on something of that magnitude without knowing what your outcome is going to be, you understand?

But I'll give design input as much as I can if/when you post yours stuff :)

Good luck with it! Post it up! :)

Card design help

If your still stuck, could you PM me or (email: adlard.matthew(at)gmail.com ), will take a look.

If it helps do not use Photoshop for text as previously said, you want vector art like illustrator.

From what you have said, what you mean is to have a dozen card per page and add text to them for bulk printing.

This is fine if you are printing your self, but a printer will often take your single efforts and rearrange them selves depending on equipment.

nanDECK!

If you're making cards, you should use nanDECK. It's a little bit of a learning curve, but it is totally worth it.

Also, it will pack the cards on to the page, whatever page size you specify.
