When Do You Start Asking People to Review Your Game?

In theory I'll have my prototype finished by month's end, and I have put the game through a battery of playtesting. I'm close to going for a Kickstarter. I'm in the building buzz phase, I think.

My question is, when do I start asking reviewers to review it, and how do you ask? Do I need to send a copy and ask for a review, or get permission and then send a copy?

Thanks for the help!

Immediately...if not sooner...

IcePeddlerGames,

Now that you have a prototype, I would contend that you should have it run through another battery of play-testing. On a recent video by The Game Crafter, they provide the advice that one's game should be play-tested by 100 people for at least 100 hours. It's very sound advise.

With regard to your KS, I would also check out the blogs by both James Mathe and Jamey Stegmaier. While I don't want to dissuade you from running your KS, I would strongly encourage you to wait and get reviews, additional play-testing, and prepare a great video.

Cheers,
Joe

Professor, Thanks for your

Professor,

Thanks for your insight! I'm not ready to launch my KS yet, but I am gearing up for it.

What I'm trying to figure out is how early do you ask reviewers to do a review on your game, and is there a particular way to ask them?

My question probably got lost in the shuffle. I get excited and tend to ramble.

Again, than you for all of your advice!

Got it!

Now, I understand. I would offer that you should get it out to Undead Viking, Radho, etc ASAP. In that way, you can post those on your site. I had Tom Vasal critique our pieces well in advance of launching our project. Also, if you know anyone can conduct a podcast interview, that's a great thing, as well.

Cheers,
Joe

I do not know how to go about asking for the review, but I will tell you my plan and maybe you can glean a bit of information from it or maybe we can learn from others here like Joe as he has had success and offered me great info in the past.

I will be taking multiple prototypes and sending them to the reviewers with a letter of request for them to test the PROTOTYPE game. "A Plea of Help" in nicer language letting them know the game is still Beta and that things may still evolve. :)

The groups I have seen that have done a nice job and I am going to utilize are below, maybe you can utilize some for your own reviews.

I wish you success with your campaign.
