Hey friends!

Boston Festival of Indie games is coming up this September and I was wondering who else is going and if anyone's games here got accepted into the showcase?

My game "Henchmen!" just got entered and I'm pretty excited since this means my Kickstarter can now go up as well. What abot you guys?

We just got our acceptance

We just got our acceptance email today, so we will be heading down to Boston for the festival! We will be bringing our latest prototype of Mecha Mettle to hopefully gain some play tests and get feedback

Interested, with some questions

Hi. I'm in New Hampshire, so it's a scant couple of hours to Boston for me, and I'm thinking of going. I do have some questions if anyone here has been before.

How much is it like a regular industry convention, with vendor booths and speakers, compared to a board game convention, with a lot of open space where people are just gathering unofficially to play games?

Are people like me -- just a hobbyist / beginner at game design -- welcome? If I brought a couple of games that I have which are playtest-ready, would I be likely to find people willing (and space available) to give it a go? (I do assume that I would be expected to respond in kind, and spend the bulk of my time playtesting others' games.)

I don't really have anything in a state that real game companies would be interested in, but I sort of would like to chat with some, just to get an idea of their receptivity to some of my ideas. Would this kind of conversation be welcomed, assuming I kept the discussion to under 5 minutes, or would I just be bothering them? Are there even places to meet people who would be appropriate for such a discussion?

Since you didn't provide the link, here it is for anyone else interested: http://bostonfig.com/

BFIG is open to everyone from

BFIG is open to everyone from casual gamers to well established indie developers.

There are open free-play tables but last year they did fill up pretty fast with the people who purchased tables looking to expand their current space so that more people could get a chance to try their games.

I don't work for BFIG nor do I in any way speak for them but it has been my experience that people who are going to play games there are going in order to try out the games that are:

-in the indie game showcase
-brought by people who purchased tables
-mostly completed game designs

This isn't to say you won't find people willing to play but that isn't the focus of the event.

What I would suggest is messaging user: Aerjen, about what you could expect at the event and what your options are for getting feedback on your in production game. Aerjen is one of the event organizes can could give you more information then I can.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Thanks so much. That was just the info I was looking for. I'm still looking forward to going, but my plans and expectations are more appropriate.

Damn, I wish I had a little

Damn, I wish I had a little more time to tune my game for this! But I'll be there regardless.

BFIG Director here :)

Hi everyone,

As one of the festival directors, I'm happy to take any and all questions on the festival, although the Zodiak Team has already done a good job of explaining quite a bit of the ins and outs. What I can add to that is that we'll also have 3 rooms filled with workshops and presentations running throughout the day.

We're currently adding content to the site (programming, tabletop showcase games & digital showcase games) and that's where you can find most info: www.bostonfig.com

Best,

Aerjen

I'll be there with my real time restaurant game Le Sablier.

Aerjen, will the schedule for the festival be posted soon?

Looking forward to meeting some fellow BGDFers!
