Another Question...

The cards look a lot better now, yet I'm still confused about adding pictures to each card. When I select a card and choose a picture, it replaces the card template. Either I'm not doing it right or is it not yet possible to put an image inside the template where, in my case, is the big title? Also thanks for catching the whitelist on Deck Alpha and getting rid of the rules comment. I'll keep trying with the pics.

OK, I understand your confusion. What you're wanting to do is put your own images into the card template (rather than upload an image of the entire card).

At the moment there is no way to add your own images to the card template, but I am working on a way to do that (although there are some challenges I'm trying to work out).

Thanks again for taking the time to share your game, it is greatly appreciated. I'll keep you up-to-date as I work on the existing features and add new ones.

Just wanted to drop a line and let you know that I improved the card maker (still can't add custom images though). The word-wrapping and right-alignment are much improved. I also added a red version of my base card template. I'm still working on some new templates. I've gone ahead and applied the improved card formats to your WW II Limited Extension set so you can see the difference.

I'm getting ready to work on some sort of custom image inclusion. I'll let you know when I have more to report.

So your adding templates...

The cards in the extension look great. If you continue with adding colored cards that would be cool because my game is color-coded to an extent (the rules point out color). Since red is one of the types of cards, I will begin to change some of my cards to the fantasy red format. Keep me posted on anything new added.

How about this:

You can upload your own images to your cards, and then embed those images into the card maker (the new card overwrites the image you previously uploaded, so be careful so you don't have to retrace your steps too often). For more info, read my blog post about the feature:

http://www.cardgameforge.com/blog.php?id=29

I will also be making some other basic color variations on my base template. Those should be coming in the next day or two.

FYI, I just added blue, black, brown, green, and gray versions of the basic card template (in addition to the red & white that were already there).

Finished examples

The cards are turning out great with the new colors and photo feature. Take a look at the WWII Limited Extension, I finished those besides some filler text for the N/A text boxes. Thanks for keeping me up to date with improvements.

Card data size

As I began to create cards with pics, I realized that my cards were exceeding the recommended limit of 20kb. Therefore I plan to only create cards with pics for the first two decks at this time. Though I doubt 350ish cards(the entire game) will exceed the 10mb limit, I'd rather make sure I don't go over.

You've still got nearly 5MB of space left, and all your cards have images. Considering you're only looking at adding between 10-15K per image, I'd say you won't run into any issues adding custom images for all cards.

If you feel like you might run over, let me know and I'll bump up your limit by a few MB.

Cards are looking great, BTW! Thanks for putting the site through its paces, I really appreciate it.

Just wondering...

I don't know how your template works, but on some of the custom images put inside the card templates are cut off. Is there a way to crop the images automatically to best fit the image zone? Most of my cards look great, but a few are cutting the desired image in half. How do I know if the image will fit properly? Oh, and deck alpha is done, will probably lift the hold later today.

The card generator scales and crops images to fit in the target zone. So, if a zone is 230x150px (for example), it will first scale the image to 230px wide, and then take the top 150px of the image.

So, whatever art you are trying to get to show up should be near the top of the image (since the bottom of the image is always cropped).

The "Big Name" zone on all of the templates is a 212x129px area. You could crop all of your images to that size in advance, and the card generator wouldn't have to do any scaling or cropping.

Also, I should mention that I added a new feature that lets you upload multiple card images at the same time. Here's a blog post about this new feature:

http://www.cardgameforge.com/blog.php?id=36

This should save you some time as you're creating the cards.

Website malfunction

Most likely my doing, I've seemed to have broken a page in my "cards" section. If I go to "cards" then "deck bravo" then page "4", I get a blank page and I swear there were at least ten finished cards on that page. In fact the entire page is blank. It happened after I tried to upload a photo. Perhaps it was too big? If you can help me recover the lost cards that would be great, otherwise I'll reenter them after your reply.

Interesting...

Certainly not your doing. I'm out of town on business and only have limited access to some of my tools. I will take a deeper look at this issue as soon as I get back home later this week. I apologize for the screw-up, there are obviously some kinks I have yet to work out.

Wow...

Wow... just came across this and I must say, this is a dream. I've messed around creating trading card games by hand, and this is absolutely perfect. Amazing job!

One tiny thing though... although I have my game/cards set to private, they still show on the "Recent" and "Games" list. You still can't view their pages... but perhaps when they are set to private they shouldn't appear at all? Just a suggestion.

Thanks! The whole point of this site was to make it easier for game makers to focus on their games, and not on all the peripheral work.

I have considered that, and it is on my list of things to fix in the very near future. Thanks for the feedback!

Hmmm...

Another idea, perhaps there could be a way to make card backs? Don't mean to load you up with too much :P
