Hey with 3 games about to be published and more on the way, I thought it would be interesting to share my experiences in how I got published. It's called: From Inspiration to Publication. Check it out and I hope you find it interesting and useful!

Wasn't really sure which

Wasn't really sure which games or who was publishing as I skimmed... but I liked the Why We Buy video - good job. I own a game store (besides being a publisher and designer) and it always frustrates me when I can't point at the back of a box to explain the game.

Which games...

Hey James - thanks for reading! My process has been to start where I started and take everyone through every step on my way to getting published...so far we're still in the inspiration part!

That said - the three games I have coming out are listed in the very first post. They are:

-Cream of the Crop from Toy Vault
-Train of Thought from Tasty Minstrel Games
-Belfort from Tasty Minstrel Games

There is some prototype art up for the last two on BGG.com - and if you've seen recent posts in my blog - we're starting to get in the actual art for Belfort and it's looking beautiful!!

Absolutely working on new

Absolutely working on new games! I love game design - so Sen and I are always working on new games. We have about 5 or 6 games that are publisher ready - and they all have seen a publisher or three already! We have two brand new games that are 95% ready - that we're getting ready for BGG.con. One's a gamer-game called Santorini (but title might change) and is my favourite game I've played of ours, and the other is another party game called But Wait, There's More - which has more laughing than any other game we've made. So both good signs! Thanks for asking!! Check the blog for more information about my games as they move along the production cycle.

Is it a fixed interval

Is it a fixed interval between your posts or is it a "when I have time" thing? (ofcors news updates are excluded)

response

1) I hate that when I hit reply that I can't see the other messages any more..

2) The posts on my blog are kind of whenever I have time but I am aiming for at least twice a week, which I have accomplished so far I think!

3) For sure - when the games hit I'm pretty sure we'll send one to you! I'll make sure the publisher knows. Thanks for the offer!

4) How's this for cool awesomeness - My first game that's coming out (Train of Thought) will have an add on the inside box for my second game that is coming out (Belfort)...how crazy cool is that??

STEP 1

First of All... I hate "that" too! O_o
If you open the same window in another browser window and resize it next to you original window, you can >.< But it's still gonna feel weird.

I'm looking at the link to your blog (which seems uber-awesome), but it seems to miss step1?

Please let me know how to find it :)

Thanks,

Richie

1st post

Hey Richie - Thanks for checking it out! As for the first post - I investigated and saw that when you click on Steps to Publication - then scroll to the bottom...there's a link called "older posts". So it seems there's a limit to how many posts fit on one page! So it is there!

Enjoy man!

Complete?

Hey Hulken - there are 3 games that are complete and currently being published. You can follow two of them on the blog by clicking on Belfort Updates or Train of Thought Updates to see preview art and discussions about those games. All the other games that I talk about are games that haven't yet been published - but soon..???!! Thanks for checking it out.

I have found there is a lot

I have found there is a lot of hurry up and wait when you’re a game designer. Publishers might not contact you for months then boom out of the blue they want revisions done and soon or your project might get bumped into next year.

The thing is if your lucky to get two things going at once both publishers will contact you within days of each other both needing something done. It's like they plan it.

new post!

Hey hulken (and others!) - Since coming back from my amazing BGG.con adventure (which I've detailed in numerous posts already!), I've been pretty busy with that whole life thing! I just posted a new post tonight about getting your game in front of a publisher - via email. This weekend I hope to post part two on this topic which is by going to a convention! Thanks for following - and for your patience. It's fun to write about my adventures in getting published and it's even helping us be more disciplined. Hope you get some value out of it too!

Hurry up and Wait

Hey Dralius - I hear that man! From the moment we heard a verbal "We want to publish your game" to it coming out - well it hasn't happened for our first game that a publisher wants to publish! That game is called Belfort and Tasty Minstrel expressed interest in publishing it in March of 2009. It will probably come out in April or May of 2011 - so a full 2+ year wait! Throughout this time we have been seeing a lot of artwork from the artist - and it's looking super sweet!

For Train of Thought - which Tasty Minstrel expressed interest in publishing that Sept 2009 and it is coming out Jan 2011 - so a little over a year wait. The only way to alleviate the pain of waiting is to work on other designs! That way you should always have games at each step of the process! That's the idea anyway!
