I am being really nit-picky and over analytical of my BGG ads. Who wants to weigh in on this?

For each size (square, vertical, horizontal)...

Do you prefer Red or White font?

Do you prefer the text, "How will you siege the castle?" or "Build your army and attack!" ?

Do you think it should have the game title in it? Just the tagline? Just the game name? Both?

My 2 cents

My picks

  • Square: C
  • Vertical: C or "F" (See below)
  • Horizontal: A

The gold words "Wages of War" needs to be the main feature as it is the "branding" for the game... along with the castle. I like the idea of "BUILD"-ing my Army more than the idea of sieging the castle... I don't think the orange-to-red text works from a graphic design sense but the gold & white works very well.

For the Vertical version consider the style below that has the elements in the order they hit the eyes.

Vertical Choice F

Edit: I did not re-add the white "finding now on KS" text not because it should not be there but because the edit was fast and dirty... You have the originals so moving the elements will be easier for you than for me :)

Good stuff! Thanks for the great suggestions! I love your "off-the-screen" option F!

At first I was thinking I would leave the game name off so that people would sense the question of "what is this" and desire to investigate it further, but I'm realizing that I want to leverage any chance that an ad viewer has already heard or seen of Wages of War before, and this will remind them. You know how they say that your brand has to be seen several times to stick.

For me, square A works as

For me, square A works as well as square C, so either one. I like Vertical A because it has both the title and the "build" text - wondering if it would work like that on horizontal A as well?

I agree with BH about liking the "build" quote better than the siege, and definitely have the title in them all. I do slightly prefer square A over C because I can see the title, but it emphasizes the type of game it is, and that's going to interest me more than the title itself.

Have the name in the banner

Yes I agree: branding is important.

We (my Publisher and I) went through this on BGG. They kept changing the NAME of the game to "Tradewars: Homeworld ..." And I had to explain that the NAME of the game is "Tradewars - Homeworld ..." The hyphen is part of the name.

I sometimes see BGG KS Banners with no NAME ... and I say: "What is this???" But rarely do I click - unless the banner looks super awesome. I rarely click on BGG banners - again unless the banner looks really good and the game name interest me.

Take for example: "Diver City". Saw it a couple times and was like Ho-hum. Then I decided after seeing it several times to see the KS campaign was CANCELED AFTER reaching this goal. Still don't know what happened to that game... But must be rather controversial.

Long and short: have the name in the banner.

People want to know ahead of time what it is they are clicking on...

I like Vertical option "F" too... It flows nicely: Game Name, Castle and arms with the KS logo at the very bottom. Nice work @BH!

I like them all, but would

I like them all, but would suggest changing around the graphics order on ones that look the same. Like all that have 'attack!' in white should look the same, as well as the red 'attack!', etc. Theme by statement.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I made some improved versions and submitted them, but unfortunately the guy who handles them is flying this morning so who know when I'll get him to update my ad images.
