Need some "interesting" variation on COLORS

So I have two (2) RESERVED colors:

  • White = Heroisms
  • Black = Terrors

Now I have three (3) PRIMARY colors:

  • Yellow = Riches (Income/Bounty)
  • Blue = Fame (Renown/Infamy)
  • Red = Influence (Favor/Servitude)

Lastly I have three (3) SECONDARY colors:

  • Green = ???
  • Orange = ???
  • Purple = ???

I don't know what my SECONDARY colors should be??? I've been toying with these for several hours... And I have not concluded what each one should be.

One IDEA is:

  • Green = Nature
  • Orange = Order
  • Purple = Chaos

But I'm not 100% sold on this. Anyone have any thoughts about those three (3) secondary colors?

Another direction

Here's something else I whipped up together with more Googling and digging:

  • Green = Artisans (???/???)
  • Orange = Clergy (Church/Occult)
  • Purple = Aristocracy (Nobility/Cabal)

Need something more "mysterious" than Nature???

Please feel free to share you thoughts/ideas on the various SECONDARY colors... Would be great to get some feedback!

I'd try to place traits that

I'd try to place traits that counterpoint the bordering colors.

Green is Generosity (related to riches-fame)
Purple is Humility (related to fame-influence)
Orange is Honesty (related to influence-riches)

Really depends on what you are going for in feel.

If they are all meant to be empowerment type things then:
Green is Land ownership
Orange is Merchant control
Purple is Nobility

Church/occult seems to be the same ballpark as Hero/Villan or Heroism/Terror.

How about:

+ Green = Artisans (Goods/Weapons)
+ Orange = University (Discovery/Rebellion)
+ Purple = Aristocracy (Protection/Oppression)

Makes Sense!

Purple is Humility (related to fame-influence)
Orange is Honesty (related to influence-riches)
...

  • Green = Artisans (Generosity/Greed)
  • Orange = Clergy (Honesty/Deception)
  • Purple = Nobility (Humility/Egotism)

Makes perfect sense. I just added the "Shadow" side's opposite traits (for sake of completeness)... But I really like what you had as ideas... I'd been searching around for something similar — but came up with "nada".

So again "Thank You!" for helping me out.

Those are real "cool" and work with the "Shadow" side too! I'm really loving that "Green" color since it is related to "riches"... Generosity is proof positive... But I love "Greed" for the "Shadow" side... That's SUPER cool.

That was another problem... Varying the traits so that they work for BOTH the light and Shadow side!

Medieval 3 Tiers (Real not fictitious)

I was trying to "respect" the three (3) tiers from Medieval times. They were:

Nobility — Clergy — Commons.

But commons grouped all the people like professional like Blacksmiths, Doctors, Shopkeepers, Farmers, etc. So I thought the "Artisan" grouping would be more appropriate and works well with "Generosity/Greed".

As an "Artisan" you are offering your products and services to the population. And so in a way, you need to balance "Generosity and Greed" such that if you were for example a Doctor, you would share your time with patients and also watch to not over-charge them for services, otherwise no one would call on you...

Colors and their meanings

So I'm cool with the previous traits, they are good. But I wanted some more "traits" to further explain how a card "relies" on one or several colors.

This is what I have far:

Contrasting Core "traits":

  • White = Life
  • Black = Death

Primary "traits":

  • Yellow = Bravery/Cowardice
  • Blue = Harmony/Chaos
  • Red = Passion/Anger

Secondary "traits":

  • Green = Growth/Destruction
  • Orange = Faith/Heresy
  • Purple = Ambition/Apathy

Anyone want a second look??? Maybe someone else has better suggestions??

I'm open to "other" ideas too... This is not yet set in stone... So to speak.

Settle for questions? (That may lead to help)

What are you thinking in terms of mood and tone, of both the artwork and the gameplay? With a little bit of shading, you can veer away from the go-to connections while still not losing your players.

For example, shining yellow can be gold or the sun (wealth). A little tint and that yellow signifies sickness or insanity. Same with green: bright healthy leaves and fresh food... or mold, a swamp?

(This may put an extra burden on your iconography design, but it may be something to think about when commissioning artwork--or even selecting placeholders off the net.)

Here is my game's Color Chart

I wanted to show it to you... Instead of just replying: "Yeah I've got a Color Chart"... You can click on it and it will display a LARGER more readable version of the image. Also no pixelation when viewing the large version too...

This is my first attempt at making something that looks cool and can maybe compete with Magic's PIE CHART. Obviously Magic's is better... But I think mine looks cool too!

Cheers.

I removed the "Blah-Blah"...

And wrote something more relevant to the colors and "resources" each one represents. Also how the color combination work from mixing two (2) primary colors to get one (1) secondary color (Color Wheel Knowledge).

Black and White are "core" colors and are a combination of three (3) colors.

For example if you are playing the "Shadow" side, Black = Yellow + Blue + Red (All Primary Colors); and White = Green + Orange + Purple (All Secondary Colors).

So in terms of resources (for the "Shadow" side):

Black = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 resource points.
White = (1 + 2) + (1 + 3) + (2 + 3) = 12 resource points.

So it's very "costly" to use the opposing sides color... but still possible for certain cards with an interesting "advantage".

And obviously for the "Light" side, it's the opposite that allows you to make the "core" resources:

White = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 resource points.
Black = (1 + 2) + (1 + 3) + (2 + 3) = 12 resource points.

Color Wheel

Black and White are fundamentally different than the other six colors, so they belong next to the wheel or something.

The kick-ass image in my head, which probably impossible to produce on paper, would show a swoopy-arcing sector for each of the six colors kind of like slightly separated sections of an orange. Each sector is light at the top and dark at the bottom, so you can put White at the north polar region and Black at the south polar region.

I couldn't find a single picture that showed the idea, but this hopefully isn't useless:

(links because I can't figure out how to scale the images)

Imagine top and bottom: Six-part hemisphere

Imagine six sectors: TESS field of view

More complicated than needed: D&D Elemental Planes

Color wheel is coming along nicely

Looks cool.

Little late to the discussion, but typically see green as resources (other than wealth/riches) and purple as royalty and/or faith/church. Might be too late for that input.

I have a game in the works utilizing Black/Grey/White as Death-Evil/Inert-Neutral/Life-Good with the six colors for support and I have Brown for Equipment and stuff. My colors are more element/terrain focused. But I digress.

For the wheel, you could utilize like a yin-yang style symbolism (though something more relevant to your theme) as the black/white core. Then place two sets of the six colors around it such that:
On black side of the yin-yang:
red - anger
orange - heresy
yellow - cowardice
green - destruction
blue - chaos
purple - apathy
On white side of the yin-yang:
red - passion
orange - faith
yellow - bravery
green - growth
blue - order
purple - ambition

Basically like there's a scale to slide along behind the yin-yang (or whatever symbol you develop) for each color/trait. Might get too noisy though. Just thinking out load.
