Anyone know of an interesting and recent movie release which features the card/board game scene? We're still looking for something cool to show at our festival: www.bostonfig.com

Board Games in Movies

There's Ingmar Bergman's 'The Seventh Seal'. Wouln't hurt to play it as a double feature with one of the parodies, such as Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey or Woody Allen's 'Love And Death'.

There's also a movie version of Clue, with three different endings.

Sounds like a cool programing item.

It's more of a documentary

It's more of a documentary but you should check out 'Going Cardboard'. I haven't actually had the chance to see it myself yet.

Jumanji obviously. The Star

Jumanji obviously.

The Star Wars and star trek universes both feature specified in universe versions of chess. Big Bang Theory had a scene featuring trek chess in the first season. Battlestar Galactica features its own card game. And Avatar the last airbender features Pai-Sho.

The Marvel universe has "The Hellfire Club" where everyone is named for a chess piece, recently portrayed in "X-Men: First Class", the DC equivalent is "the playing card gang" recently featured in "Arrow" and "The Cape" had as a primary villain "Chess"

There is the Chess scene in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the Rubiks Cube scene in "Pursuit of Happiness" The scrabble tiles scene in both "Sneakers" and "Young Sherlock Holms" The monopoly scene in "Zombieland" and the Go scene in "A Beautiful Mind"

"Battleship" was also a thing that happened... but I don't want to talk about it.
