Pick Up + Deliver Themes?

So, I've been designing the basics to a pick up and deliver game for a while, and it needs a bit of a flair to it. Therefore, I want to add event cards that will occasionally be picked up. The problem is, I don't have a theme for the game yet, and that will influence what the event cards will be and what they will do.

I've already ruled out two main themes, being "intergalactic trade" and "trade in the Mediterranean", those being the most overused choices. I want something a bit more unique or less common, but works as a pick up and deliver. Any suggestions?

HA! First link below is a video of some kids pranking their local 'paperboy' by acting out the obstacles.

Anyways, Intergalactic plus Mediterranean equals "Cosmic Oils." Traders travel between solar systems, exchanging olive oil for slug juice, petroleum for pleasure droid lubricants. It's the weird world of space, like something from Futurama or an Alan Dean Foster novel, perhaps with each alien species themed after Greeks, Romans, Egypt, etc.

My game

One of my games is Laker which is a pick up and delivery theme. You must have somew challanges built in to give more conflict and competition between the players. I use event cards. In Laker you are a freighter captain/owner on the Great Lakes.

Hmmm

I would ask yourself what is the most exciting thing that you could deliver. If that is a newspaper that fine.

For me I want to be the delivery boy for all the mad scientist around the world. Plenty of room for fun here.

Delivery

What if you have a box, and a delivery location. But only an opponent knows what it is/how it behaves during transit, etc.
Kinda think maybe the crossroads card in Dead of Winter. If you move too fast, maybe it explodes. If you hold it overnight, a monster awakens and tries to escape. If you move through this part of the map, the trees begin to attack your caravan.

How about...

Some Secret Agent... Need to intercept the Carrier and steal the package from where he has "safely" hidden it and then manage to report back with the "package" to your headquarter!

You must do this while under constant watch of your association's enemy.

This could happen in different cities and you must travel all the way home and return the package.

MAN this does make for an interesting game concept. Don't think I've ever seen anything like it! Hmmm...

Update: If you make it a CROSS between "Secret Agent" and "The Amazing Race", that could make for an interesting type of game... World at your fingertips, the enemy lurking at every possible corner.
